The view was beautiful but if the host could have ruined that she would have done that too. She was rude, insulting and dismissive. She started by telling us that she didn't know of our reservations. She then added charges for the dogs-in addition to charging us $100 for the dogs, she placed a $500 charge on our credit card in case we left them in the room without us. The charge is still on our credit card as it has not dropped off yet. As we were leaving we asked her to return the deposit , she said "I didn't charge you, get lost!" and then hung up the phone. We talked to the people beside us (who did not book through Expedia) and their check-in experience was vastly different. A $500 hold was not required of them. After we submitted our initial review to expedia, she refused to give us clean towels because she said we gave her a bad review and slammed the door in my husband's face. We had one towel each for the entirety of our stay. My husband tried to connect with her and told her he was from Ireland. She replied, that the Irish are nice people but he was the exception. She also told him that he was a horrible person when he asked for the towels and accused him of "nickel and diming her" as we were trying to get the price for the dogs that was printed on the website. The amenities were very basic and little scary because the appliances were bought in the 70's and the carpet was threadbare and definitely not up to par for the price. I have been with Expedia for years

Amazing hotel with incredible views!
Absolutely amazing place. Our dog was super happy the entire time as well. The view was amazing!!! The host Alvina is such a sweet and funny person. This place looks and feels like a cozy, rustic German/ Austrian cottage. Exactly what we were looking for. And the location was perfect!

Rustic lake relaxing times
This is a lovely place if you’re looking for a rustic lake side apartment away from hustle and bustle. We shared some drinks and fun times with the owner Alvina... if we come back we’d stay again. If you want modern flash then it’s not the place but if you want chilled atmosphere, bbq at night and just somewhere to relax then this is a great option.

The view was unbeatable of the lake and mountains. The room was clean and the kitchen came with all the supplies to eat in at least a little bit. The decor is older and shows some wear, there is also no air conditioning or overhead fans. Overall for the price and view it is wonderful and we will be back.

Location is excellent, but otherwise a mixed bag
The location is superior - right on the lake, a short walk to a nice public beach, also to Safeway and the Kings Beach commercial strip. It's pet-friendly, too. It's also clean, but there's a very cheap, shabby vibe about it. First, the place hasn't been remodeled in decades, so surfaces are worn, and drawers and doors don't close right. Second, furnishings were mostly low-end to begin with, so they underscore the place's worn and semi-functional traits: a curtain rod came apart when I was trying to open the curtains. The bedding was bottom-of-the-line, with micro-fiber sheets, those weird sheet-foam blankets, and pillow shams that were so ancient-looking that I didn't want to put my head on them. Third, the walls were thin, so I could hear my neighbors below and next door, making me paranoid about disturbing them. Other negatives: Contrary to the promotional blurb, you can't call what they have a private beach. It's boulders and a tiny little pier. Housekeeping is kind of intrusive. The owners seem to do it themselves, and they don't give you a "Do Not Disturb" sign. I get the impression they really want to come in, even though I neither need nor want clean towels every day anyway.

A room with such a view!
Holiday House is not a new hotel, so if you are looking for five-star luxury, this isn't the place for you. However, if you want the most stunning view of Lake Tahoe, a warm and friendly greeting from the owner and her sweet dog, Heidi, peace and tranquility, then this is the place for you.

Cozy, Can't beat the view, but dated...
I wish there was a way to communicate that our pets were coming on our visit through Expedia, but plan on calling the Holiday House directly to advise that your pet(s) are coming, if you choose to book through Expedia. Our host was very pleasant and welcoming, and it was almost as if she had invited us into her home. Plenty of local knowledge and ideas for "out of towners". The room that we stayed in had incredible views and was almost as if it was suspended over the Lake. The room was sufficient for what we needed, but don't expect much in the way of extravagancies. The room had a definite ‘70’s feel as if that had been the last time any updates had been made. The shower, however, was very good and didn’t lack for water pressure! Although dated The Holiday House was clean and homey.
View from the door to our room

A wonderful stay at the Holiday House
My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Holiday House. Our rooms included a bedroom, a nicely stocked kichenette, bathroom with shower and family room. The rooms were spotless and nicely furnished. The bed was very comfortable. We had a great view of the lake from the family / kichenette area. There was easy access to the water. Innkeeper Alvina and her German Shepherd Heidi made us feel welcome and very comfortable during our stay. We will definitely go back!

Affordable rooms close to the water, creaky walls
The room was large enough to fit everyone in our party. Our room was on the 1st floor. When guests on the 2nd floor walked around, our walls creaked and could also the foot steps of the upstairs guests. The kitchenette was stocked with enough plates and silverware, but the oven door didn't fully close so it took longer for food to cook since heat kept escaping. Probably best suited for college students on a budget just staying for a weekend.

Excellent lakefront location!
We just returned from a delightful 4 day, 3 night stay at Holiday House's suite#5. This particular suite is situation on the ground floor right in front of the lake! The patio between the suite and the beach was well appointed with comfortable seating and a BBQ grill. Alvina, the owner, was so very welcoming and gave us a quick tour of how to access the beach when we arrived. The suite itself was comfortable and clean. Yes, it did show its age but our delight at the location and Alvina's excellent customer service more than made up for that. There is a Murphy bed in the lounge area and a large queen sized bed in the bedroom. The kitchenette includes a fridge and gas stove as well as pots, pans, silverware, dish detergent, salt, pepper and cooking oil. The sink came with dish liquid and sponge for cleaning up and Alvina changed the towels every day.

It's all about the view.
The view is spectacular. But the rooms were like you stepped back in time. Everything is functional but definitely should be in a museum. The location and staff were wonderful. Recommend if all you don't spend much time inside your room. And in Lake Tahoe you shouldn't be spending anytime in there at all.

Awesome Retreat
This is a quaint and beautiful place right on the lake. The owner added to our enjoyment of the lake because she is passionate about the spirit and beauty of this place. We couldn't get enough of the view from the double deck in front of all rooms. Right on the water from the north shore, sipping on a cold Pacifico, cool lake breeze and amazing views after a day of hiking... can't go wrong!

Ok if you are desperate for a clean place to stay.
There weren't many options left for a last-minute post-New Year's stay in north Lake Tahoe. The room we had was certainly roomy, but it hasn't been updated in probably 40 years. The owner was very nice, check in was fine, and when we tripped a fuse in the bathroom, it was taken care of right away. The beds were probably newer and were comfortable although the sheets seemed like they were from Goodwill. The towels were all nice and new. The kitchen was pretty bare bones and we didn't do more than make tea. So, overall, only recommend if you are desperate like we were during a holiday week.

Pictures can be misleading
My husband and I wanted to get away for a few days before I started the school year again. I searched on Expedia for a place to stay along the lake and looked at Holiday House. The pictures were wonderful and the price fairly reasonable. There were cheaper places with more amenities that included free breakfast, sons, hot tub, fireplaces. But this place had a phenomenal view and showed beautiful flowers on balconies, nicely appointed rooms, etc. When we arrived we found a very run down rooms, the shower was mildewed and the door of the shower was rusted. The hair dryer had never been cleaned and I had to clean it myself before I could use it. The bedroom was disgusting. I could not sleep the first night because I thought something will crawl on me. The second night I wore long johns and long sleeve shirt because I did not want my body to be touching the sheets. The stove was .... I think you are getting the picture. The place has not been renovated since the 1970's (I think).

nice get away
The lake Tahoe area can get very crowded, what we liked about Holiday house was it's quiet seclusion from all the crowds and noise. The rooms are clean and somewhat comfortable. A little upgrade on the furniture would be nice but did not detract from our stay. If you want modern fancy rooms go to one of the large Tahoe resorts for about $300 per night, I'll come back to the Holiday House for it's relaxed setting and great views

Matches Vibe of N. Lake Tahoe. Quaint with Nature.
The stay at Holiday House was perfect. The hotel has a very convenient locaton, you are one minute drive from King's Beach and five minute drive from Tahoe City. The hotel amenities were very simple and exactly what you need. Clean bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen. The hotel has a grill you can use on the patio that overlooks the lake. There is a swimming area right on the lake and you can sit on the beach chairs. It's not a sandy beach, but more of a bouldery one. It's perfect for having a drink and reflecting over sunset. If you are the type of person that needs a modern luxurious hotel, unfortunately, there aren't alot of options in lake tahoe that provides that. What Holiday House provides is an accomodation that is simple and surrounded with the view of the lake. Those views are just gorgeous. If you look at the pictures, it's exactly what you get. What the pictures don't capture is the beautiful energy of the property. The sound of the lake that greets you right at your door. I've stayed in so many places and I just can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel.

Worth Coming Back To, 9 yrs + Counting!
I'm reluctant to share this gem. I want to keep it a secret! It's on the lake, and by that I mean you'll see and hear the waters lashing at the shore. You'll see spectacular vistas of the mountains surrounding the lake. It's woodsy, but civilized enough. No flat screen TV's. Free wireless, but you know, I didn't access email once, during this last trip. It's pet friendly, and the proprietress, Alvina, has a beautiful German Shepard, to whom you might have the good fortune to be gently introduced. I think it's very romantic, and my wife agrees. Our two children also love it. It's about three miles to the Nevada state line, so there are casinos and ski areas, nearby. If you believe in supporting wonderful, family owned and operated, one-of-a-kind places, that really appreciate your business, I recommend it, highly. But it isn't a Holiday Inn. There are plenty of plastic places like that, especially on the South Shore. It's the Holiday HOUSE. And it feels like one!

Great rustic getaway
This was one of the few hotels that actually faced the lake - a real jewel with only 6 suites. It was a beautiful view - could not get enough of the scenery through the huge windows. The kitchenette was perfect for breakfast and lunch preparation and even a simple dinner - small refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, small cooktop and oven. I don't go on vacation to cook, so it worked out well for my husband and me. It is very rustic - tongue and groove pine paneling in all rooms, even the bathroom. Coffee, Tazo tea, salt and pepper, and sugar were all provided by Alvina, the owner, who is a jewel herself. Comfortable bed with lovely sheets, fresh towels everyday if you want them, nice sofa was a queen sleeper but we never opened it, lots of chairs/pillows/coverlets outside on the deck for your comfort. If you like rustic, charming inns, you will love the Holiday House. If you like the glitz and luxury of the Ritz-Carlton or the Sheraton, you might not be happy here - but you will miss a great experience!

Great location BUT last redecorated in the 70s.
The good: really incredible view of the lake from lakefront balcony. Alvina the owner is a doll, couldn't be sweeter. The bad: last decorated in the 70s. Everything is clean but so tired and worn. Sheets were faded floral prints, bathroom had 70's wooden toilet seat and linoleum floor lifting by shower, sofa-sleeper sloped down at the head. If you can stand all that, go for it. If you expect more for $200/night, look elsewhere.

There on business...
Stayed for two nights for two-day conference. On the last day, manager refused to let my wife and dog stay an hour past check-out time at 11 am, forcing me to leave a business conference early to pick them up at 11 am instead of 12 pm during the lunch break. Completely unreasonable and unhospitable attitude. Also, when you check in, you will be forced to leave a $100 credit card deposit promising not to leave your dog in the room alone for even a minute; then the manager monitors your every move. Horribly uncomfortable bed. Beautiful view. Never again.
