Lovely place

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: Great staff, nice rooms, great food
Cons: It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room. There was a big crack in our bathroom sink (but it didn't leak).
Location: The location was very beautiful, despite being just off the motorway.
We had a great stay here. Our rooms were quite far from reception but that meant we weren't disturbed by the wedding going on. The staff were all lovely and very attentive and helpful. Dinner was fabulous too.

Shame about the motorway

Posted Sep 27, 2014
Pros: Lovely main building, in beautiful surroundings
Cons: Air conditioning would be a great asset
Location: The location is good for visiting local beauty spots. A trip to Gawthorpe Hall is must. Also Clitheroe and Whalley are worth a visit
The hotel was well situated for our trip with the exception of the nearby motorway which was noisy at night. If the bedroom had been equiped with aircon, then the windows could have been closed. Thus eliminating the motorway noise. On a positive note the beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom large and well equipped.

Really outdated

Posted Aug 28, 2014
Pros: Leaving
Cons: Modernise the entire place
Location: Nothing of interest locally except our home which thankfully was close enough for us to go home to sleep and come back in the morning to eat and huddl
Paid a couple hundred for 1 night with wife and two kids for a family room with dinner and breakfast. The room looked like something out of a seventies sitcom with spare cots laid out for the kids one of which had a mattress on it that was paper thin. Dinner was ok to be fair but the atmosphere was and decor wasn't at all what we expected. The pool was a typical rectangle with elderly clientele swimming/walking up and down talking amongst themselves so our kids kind of had to mill around in a corner couldn't have been more disappointing. Generally not good sorry to say.

Lovely hotel with easy access to motorway

Posted Jul 31, 2014
Pros: The staff were all excellent and made me feel welcome.
Cons: Wifi availabilty in standard rooms -essential for business travellers
Only stayed one night on business but check in was friendly and efficient. Although I arrived quite late I was offered a table for dinner and received an apology because they were unable to offer anything before 8pm. Which wasnt a problem. My room was large, clean and very comfortable. Bar and waiting staff were all very smiley and made me feel very welcome. Although there was a mix up with my order, the staff were very apologetic and quickly sorted the problem. The meal was excellent and breakfast was very good too. It would have been good to have wifi available in the room, but this wouldnt deter me from staying here again when next in the area.

Resembles a castle

We chose this hotel for the family room & pool for our children. The room was v comfortable & spacious, unfortunately the pool was closed for the evening following a child's "accident" which was disappointing but we did use the pool in the morn & it was great.

Beginning to show it's age

Posted Jul 17, 2014 on Hotels.com
I have stayed at this hotel for years now. It is beginning to show it's age as it is not properly maintained. The standards have dropped since this hotel was a MacDonald Hotel. The new owners do not have the same pride. The reception is chaotic; more that two people and it's bedlam all crowded into a tiny foyer. The leisure facilities are appalling and are getting more degraded. When I stayed and used the pool/spa back in March 2014 I complained one of the showers was broken, this time I complained about both of them. One of the steam rooms not working (again), more tiles have come off the walls and seating. The only good thing is the food in this hotel as it is very good. Overall, the hotel needs a lot of work on the fine details.

Very helpful and friendly staff

Generally Good hotel with great leisure facilities, however some problems to be aware of. For four star hotel I would have expected a mini bar/fridge in the room. There was no WIFI in the rooms and although being told that the public areas were covered I failed to get access in the dining or fitness areas. The rooms also do not have climate control we were provided with a fan on request. In fact all our requests were kindly and promptly met including providing mattresses for my daughters as they could feel the springs on the sofa bed.

Did the job

Posted Jun 9, 2014 on Hotels.com
I arrived late and left early, so the ease of finding the hotel was a blessing. Initially delighted with the size of the bed, only to realise that they were 2 singles pushed together, which doesnt make for the most comfortable sleep. Lack of wifi in this day and age is a big negative for me.
