Excellent Country Accommodation

Posted May 3, 2015
Pros: As noted above
Cons: Nothing brings to mind
Location: Visiting the Lake District. Lancaster is well worth a visit - especially the Castle and the organised and informative tour.
Excellent facilities backed up by professional staff who immediately responded to our needs.

Standard budget accomodation

Posted Apr 6, 2015
Booked this hotel for an overnight stay on the way back to London from the Scottish highlands. We were travelling as an extended family of 9 staying in 2 apartments including 2 with mobility issues. I requested for ground floor accomodation and this was honoured for one of the apartments, but the apartment wasn't really accessible for those with mobility issues. It was quite a long walk from the car park including certain parts that were steep. the accomodation was fairly standard budget style and quite dated including the baths which were not accesible for those with mobility issues. We only used this place for an overnight stop so it served our purpose well, but would have been equally fine in the days inn killington lake which we stopped at on the way to Scotland. Having said that though the grounds were lovely

Penny-pinching policies. Please rethink.

Posted Mar 6, 2015
Pros: There is a kitchen in your room.
Cons: Stop charging for extras which any reasonable person would expect to be included or stop advertising that you have those facilities.
Location: Remote. Not much.
I stay in hotels every week for my job as I travel a lot. My criteria for selecting a hotel is that it must have internet, a gym, and be within budget. When I saw Thurnham hall, it was a little far from where I needed to be for work, but it looked really nice - and met all my criteria. Firstly - I was disappointed to find that there was no free internet. Having to pay for internet is a bit of a throwback these days. It's deceitful. Most decent hotels have learnt to factor the cost into the room rate. Secondly - I was dismayed to find that I was expected to pay £10 per day for use of the Gym and Swimming pool. This is terrible. A hotel wouldn't advertise itself as having a fitness studio and spa just because it was next door to a 'Fitness First' so neither should you! Thirdly - This was the last straw - Having paid to access the gym, I was then asked to pay £1.50 to hire a towel. Really?? In summary - Mean, penny pinching and deceitful policies designed to covertly push up the money from the advertised room rate. Yes - I know that some of these costs were detailed in the small print when I booked - but if you're having to quote small print, then you've already lost my custom. I shall not be coming again. Mattress wasn't great. On the good side - The staff were all very nice, it was good to have a kitchen and be able to cook for myself (this is a factor when you've been travelling on business for a long time) and the room was reasonable. Nothing to write home about though

Nice location but very little else to offer

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: The rooms are spacious and clean
Cons: Need more reception staff and better method of dealing with crisis.
Location: Lancaster town centre. Worth a visit.
No restaurant or bar. Closed suddenly. Boiler outage led t no hot water. No towels in room on arrival. Only one receptionist who seemed to be under so much strain and pressure. Long queue and wait for check in. Despite this the hotel were not willing to do much by way of compensation.
