Great Location, service, poor room qualityPosted Nov 28, 2013
Pros: great location, good service, good food/bars.
Cons: The cheaper rooms are not up to standard, wear and tear is evident. Stained pillows, sofa, chair. Chips on walls etc.
Location: Great beach. Secluded location (which I liked) so you'll have to get taxis everywhere for activities or you'll be picked up.
The cheaper rooms need to be improved. I complained and they dealt with my issues so their service was satisfactory.

Jungle-tasticPosted Aug 2, 2013 on Hotels.com
The Datai was an amazing experience mainly because you are staying in a luxurious hotel that ties in seamlessly with the surrounding jungle. When you view the hotel from the beach, you can barely tell it's there. That's my favourite thing about the hotel. It's not obtrusive and pays respect to the nature that surrounds it. Staff were all polite and friendly. The manager was there to greet us and attend to any issues/queries we had. There was a slight issue on our first day with the housekeeping, but we received an adequate apology for this. The Gulai House and Pavilion restaurants served great food and the best amenity of the hotel in my opinion, was the adults only pool. So quiet and relaxing!

improper treatmentPosted May 9, 2013
Paying procedure was horrible. I had to doubly pay the room rate. Due to it, I could not sleep at night, though the natural environment was so good.

Great StaffPosted Jan 15, 2013
Pros: The Hotel in the middle of a rainforest by the sea!
Place is close to 2 decades old but the difference is the quality of the staff. The staff made the cruccial difference

Slice of heaven in the rainforest!Posted Dec 8, 2012
Pros: Location, staff, attention to detail, the mojitos...everything!
Cons: Steps back up from the beach are a bit of a slog, although they do offer a buggy service if you want it!
Location: Stunning- you'll never want to leave!
This hotel is one of the best. The standards are so high- we felt bad that we didn't lift a finger for the entire time we were there! Lying on the beach they follow you over with everything you could need, deliver complimentary ice-cream and sorbet to you and regular fresh water. All the restaurants are fantastic: the pricing is at a uk level, rather than a Malaysian level, and the cocktail menu is extensive- good fun to work your way through. The quality of the food is outstanding- and breakfast is delicious! I am certain all the breads etc are baked on site. The wildlife is fascinating: this was our first time to the rainforest and we loved seeing the different monkeys on our balcony and on the beach. We saw butterflies and had to work our way around a monitor lizard on the way to the beach! Overall, our stay was outstanding. We visited in December which everyone warned was the rainy season but, apart from some rain on our arrival, it was beautiful sunshine and 30 degrees. Absolutely recommend this hotel: total relaxation and luxury!

The Datai - Fabulous!Posted Oct 7, 2012
Pros: Luxurious, tranquil, relaxing and everything we expected from a 5 star hotel
Cons: Nothing, we had a totally positive experience
Location: Stunning and natural location. It's amazing how the hotel co-exists with the surrounding rain forrest, beach and wildlife.
Quite simply, our stay at the Datai was fantastic. The customer service, the quality of the rooms, the dining options, the cleanliness and upkeep of the hotel, the beach and pool options make this a first class hotel, no question. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were made welcome and relaxed immediately. The friendly and helpful staff complement the beautiful location and hotel facilities. We have made a promise to return to the Datai again.

Why can't all hotels be like this?Posted Sep 17, 2012 on Hotels.com
Excellent in every way. I stay in hotels 200 nights per Nahum and wish this standard was the norm not the exception.

WOW WHAT A PLACE!!Posted Sep 3, 2012
Pros: The rainforrest with the beautiful private beach.. very relaxing
Cons: The price of the Alcohol and food when it is a duty free island and eating anywhere else in Malaysia is cheap..
Location: A little out of the way but very well worth is!!
WOW what a place, everyone should experience it at least once, this rain forrest on the beach is absolutely beautiful and the staff were AMAZING.The Datai is a little out of town. We Hired a car for the week from the airport, there is very little traffic and this allowed us to see the island as we have never been there before. The food and drink at the Datai is expensive although the meals we had there were exquisite, that is the only down fall but as we had a car there are plenty of restuarants approx 15min drive, and the driving is easier than driving anywhere in Australia.
