Location: Gansu Provincial Museum is a wonderful museum that features Lanzhou's connection with the Silk Road. Excellent exhibit of Gansu's ancient Buddhist grottoes. Yellow River runs through the city with park along either side. Train to Llasa stops here.
While this is a Super 8 Hotel and flies an American flag at the front desk, no one spoke a word of English AND they did not take international VISA credit cards, including from Hong Kong! Room was clean, water was hot, and there was a TV and a western toilet. Beds are hard. Good location with a Bank of China nearby that DOES take international VISA cards. About 45 minutes (200RMB) to the Lanzhou International airport. Good value for the rate, but you need an interpreter to do business with them and must carry cash. Advance deposit required at check- in.
