“Try one of the themed suites”

This hotel was lovely and interesting. They have a train theme. Our room was a standard room but they have cool theme suites as well. We plan to return and stay in one of the suites. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. Beds were kind of hard but comfortable. Rooms were very clean. They offer free dvds and they have a complimentary happy hour.

Pleasantly surprised to find such a comfortable "niche" hotel in such a small community. Railroad motif. Staff unusually helpful: drove us to rail station, allowed us to park our car free for two weeks, then met us on our return and apologized for being two minutes late. About 200 yards from resturant offering a varied menu with unbelievably low prices. Hotel can be seen from the main highway, with easy access.

“Awesome train themed hotel close to Truman State”

If you want a great experience in trains and history, I highly recommend staying at the Depot. It is only about 10 minutes from Truman State and is much more colorful than the motels/hotels in Kirksville. While a lot of trains do pass by, we didn't hear any while sleeping, which was nice. The hotel is very well done and that staff is very nice.

“A wonderful surprise!”

We expect to visit Depot Inn many times over the next four years! Our daughter just started her freshman year at Truman. We live 3 hours from Kirksville and while we can round trip it in a day, and have, we prefer to drive up the night before. Twice we've stayed in Kirksville, a different motel each time. We hope to never return to either! The Depot Inn is actually in La Plata, 12 miles south of Kirksville. It's an easy 15 minute drive to campus so don't rule it out just because it's in another town! Our reservation was made in advance. Check in was easy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The lobby area with pool table and museum train exhibits throughout the halls are cool! Then we saw our room. It was beautiful! Lovely! Very updated and very clean. Our 2 bed room had a nice recliner and mini fridge. The indoor pool has a cool water pipe dump after a train whistle blows and pool toys provided. A small playground is great for young kids. Breakfast is basic, with fresh fruit, cereal, oatmeal packets, packaged donuts and muffins, juice, milk, coffee, tea and hot cocoa. It's not a hearty meal but it's adequate. All in all, the place was nicer than most we've encountered anywhere and we're already planning our return visit!

Cute, charming, super clean and updated hotel. Definitely worth staying here if you are visiting Truman. Kirksville offers a few other hotels but this one is worth the 8 mile drive off campus. Will stay here everytime I visit my daughter.

“Beautiful, family-friendly hotel”

This is a beautiful hotel -- from the stained glass windows in the lobby, to the tastefully decorated rooms to the fascinating train memorabilia that's displayed throughout. We loved our room -- king-size bed, lots of interesting architectural items throughout to make it seem unique and special. One of my favorite parts of the hotel is that every room has a symbol beneath the room number. The symbols were used by hobos back in the 30s and 40s. It was so interesting to see that detail and then go look up our room's symbol on the poster. We had a tornado, which meant "Judge lived here." How cool is that little bit of history on your room's door! Also, this would be a very family friendly hotel. There's a miniature train ride in front of the hotel that can be rented cheaply to drive children around the parking lot. There's a large wooden playground in back of the hotel, complete with ride-on Thomas and Percy vehicles. There are also two train cars on the property that you can tour. And finally, there is a beautiful indoor pool that is completely decorated with all kinds of train memorabilia, including a huge model train displayed against one entire wall. Train enthusiasts or just people who appreciate history will love this hotel. Rooms were very clean. Staff very friendly. There's a good restaurant right next door.

“Southern Charm with Amazing Rooms”

One of the best family owned hotels we have ever stayed. A very professional staff, the beds are wonderful, a great pool, and the railroad memorabilia is AMAZING ! We will definitely be visiting again.

This is a really clean and well maintained hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and I'm sure we will be staying there again as our daughter will be attending Truman. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
