The view of the river is awesome

Posted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: The history of the building
Location: The Ohio river is at the doorstep, a casino is in walking distance.
We knew we would be staying in a 200 year old hotel. We talked about ghost and maybe the building was a part of the Underground Railroad in the freeing of slaves escaping from Kentucky. The owner is working to remodel the building

Unique place

Some people probably won't think this place is fancy enough but we love it and return each year. It was just like being at home with a charming character to it!

Beautfiul Ohio River Waterfront

Posted Jun 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
The scenery was great. Nice Ohio River boardwalk. Close to several restaurants, and within walking distance of the casino. If you want moden amenities, this is not the place. The hotel is quaint. It was built around 1812. Overall,we really enoyed the view and the historical atmosphere.

Quaint and Charming

Pros: Location...this was the second time we stayed at The Empire Hotel.
Built in 1819, of course hotel needs a bit of a facelift, but overall, made for a lovely overnight stay!

An historical treat

This old river town has had a casino revival in the past couple of decades, enabling this very old hotel to survive. The restoration has been appropriate, but the rooms are limited by size and electrical power outlets. The proprietor and operator (did I mention that it has fewer than 10 rooms to let?) is very helpful and pleasant and the essential features are all in place.

Interesting place to stay.

The hotel only has six rooms and is run by one woman who also lives there. I was expecting more of a standard hotel, but it worked just fine. The owner was friendly and accommodating. It was a good value. Just realize you are not staying in a hotel.
