The view of the river is awesome

Posted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: The history of the building
Location: The Ohio river is at the doorstep, a casino is in walking distance.
We knew we would be staying in a 200 year old hotel. We talked about ghost and maybe the building was a part of the Underground Railroad in the freeing of slaves escaping from Kentucky. The owner is working to remodel the building

Unique place

Some people probably won't think this place is fancy enough but we love it and return each year. It was just like being at home with a charming character to it!

Quaint and Charming

Pros: Location...this was the second time we stayed at The Empire Hotel.
Built in 1819, of course hotel needs a bit of a facelift, but overall, made for a lovely overnight stay!

Interesting place to stay.

The hotel only has six rooms and is run by one woman who also lives there. I was expecting more of a standard hotel, but it worked just fine. The owner was friendly and accommodating. It was a good value. Just realize you are not staying in a hotel.

Bad timing on my part, it definitely colored by experience - there was a car show that weekend and I couldn't get to the hotel - roads closed off. Also didn't realize I had to climb stairs. Lovely rom once I got there. Came to Rising Sun to visit historical museum for research.

Pros: The owner was nice.
Location: The place was on the river and walking to restaurants and shops.
our stay was for 2 nights. on the first night the owner had company and forgot she had paying guest. She forgot the breakfast !!!The room was small, had a smell of must, so to cover it up had room fresheners all over. We were not impressed. The owner was nice,
