Pretty views and close shopping and dining

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Keep in mind the hotel is old, but that is what I like about it. Rooms were clean. We waited almost an hour for our food at brunch but it was good, not great. Sunset cruise was enjoyable. I recommend taking the cruise. Also recommend getting the lake view room. Overall a B

Close to downtown Mt. Dora

Wedding tent blocked view of lake, bummer. Wait staff was slow, across the board.

Historic hotel in a great location

Posted Jun 1, 2014
Pros: The location.
Cons: It could use some updating.
Location: Good location, close to historic downtown and on the lake.
It is an old, historic hotel that could use a little more updating.

Nice relaxing weekend

Posted May 27, 2014
Pros: You can sit on the porch overlooking Lake Dora and just relax in a rocker or have breakfast or lunch outside.
Cons: Some buildings are being renovated but did not appear to interfere with our stay.
Location: Boat tours of Lake Dora, Ghost walking tour or the open train ride to Tavares, the weekend train is an actual steam locomotive which is exciting.
The Inn is located within walking distance of downtown Mount Dora. The shops and restaurants are unique.

Fabulous Stay.

Posted May 27, 2014
Pros: The ambiance and the rocking chairs.
Cons: The exterior could use some updating but we understand that is in progress.
Location: If course there's shopping. Tours are available and evening entertainment is just a few steps away. However, relaxation is the the key.
We chose Lakeside Inn for our Anniversary Weekend. It was apparently booked for a Porsche Event so it was very busy and we could not check in at 3. However, because of the problem, we were upgraded to a beautiful room at no extra cost. The on-duty manager was wonderful and the staff in the lounge Saturday night and for outside seating Sunday morning were terrific. The pool sparkled, the room was spotless and we were so relaxed it was hard to say goodbye. We enjoyed it so much we are going back for Father's Day.

Comfortable vintage hotel right downtown

Posted May 12, 2014
Pros: Quaint. Near the village shops and restaurants. Clean linens, good beds. Nice staff.
Cons: Strange smell. I know it is an older building, but other rooms didn't smell. it was worrisome. Put a sign up for A/C control.
Location: If you want to take a Dora Canal tour, I would recommend leaving from Tavares, rather than the Lakeside Inn, as it takes too long to go all the way ac
I had doubts about this hotel. I have eaten in their lovely dining room a number of times. But I wondered about staying in such old buildings. The rooms were larger than I expected and quite comfortable. The only fault was that there was a bit of a smell, like a perfume covering up a cleaning chemical. Our friends room did not have the same smell. The food is special at lunch and dinner. Breakfast was good too, but the menu is short. Check-in staff was very gracious and efficient. Friendly, too. I wish I had remembered that there was a pool there. Looked lovely.

Beautiful setting but dated

Rooms needed an update. Bathrooms were worn and furniture was well used.

Historic old Hotel with a lovely view

Posted May 6, 2014
Pros: location, old world charm
Cons: lots - see above
Location: Mt. Dora is a charming town and offers plenty to do for a long weekend
I chose the hotel because of it's closeness to downtown and not needing a car. The setting is quite beautiful with lake view and sunset. Having a room without a view was ok. But there was no surface anywhere to put down anything (I used the ironing board). Little things make a difference, like a shelf above the basin for your toothbrush or make up. Housekeeping avoids the corners and gives supplies for day one, but forgets the next day. The pillows were hard, the chair uncomfortable the TV old. This hotel needs more then a lick of paint.

Needs a major upgrade!

Posted Mar 31, 2014
Pros: Area it is located in.
Cons: Everything
We didn't stay, the room was awful. It looks like your grandmothers bedroom. No internet, only in the lobby, so if you like sitting in lobby it should be ok. It is in a nice area which was a shame that it is so out dated.

Idyllic lakeside retreat.

Posted Mar 3, 2014
Pros: Lakeside setting, large room, Sunday brunch.
Cons: Parking was limited
Location: Harris Chain of lakes...boating tours, seaplane excursions, fishing Mt. Dora...restaurants, antique shops, sidewalk festivals Tavares...train tours
Spent the day cruising the Harris chain, six restaurants on five lakes in four cities. The Gilbert Park boat ramp on Lake Dora is within walking distance of The Lakeside Inn. Large clean room with dark hardwood furniture coupled with light Key West colors. So much to do...we'll be back!
