Low end hotel but close to the VA Horse CenterPosted Nov 4, 2013
Pros: This hotel is not a place I would stay at if I was on vacation. BUT it is very close to the Virginia Horse Center.
Cons: House keeping can vacuum the floor. Wake up calls can happen.
Location: Check out the shows at the Virginia Horse Center. Also VMI is close by.
Not dependable on wake up calls. Make sure you set your alarm on your phone.

Gave me the bluesPosted Oct 26, 2013
Unfortunately our stay at this hotel was not satisfactory. The room smelled musty, and not just faintly; it was strong! There were all kinds of hairs in the beds in our room, I had to take everything but the sheets off and then I even had to shake those off. Honestly it made me pretty depressed and we did everything we could to spend as little time as possible in our room. The staff all smoked and the whole hotel smelled of stale smoke, and they were pretty unprofessional talking about personal matters loudly in public areas. I would not stay here again and I would never recommend this place.

DisappointedPosted Sep 4, 2013
Cons: What couldn't be? 9
I usually think that people who give poor reviews have too high expectations, but I went in with low expectations and it didn't come close to what I expected. The room was dirty. Someone else's soap was on the tub surround. Something was splattered on the wall and ceiling. Was it pizza or blood? No TV remote. Mattress was poor. Linens were grayish and well-worn. Price high for what we got.

Last minute choicePosted Sep 3, 2013
Pros: the front clerk - she was trying to please many irate guests with absolutely no help and horrid working conditions
Cons: an additional front clerk would be a good start and then listen to her complaints
Location: close to everything
Needed to stay an extra day dropping our daughter off to school. As I was checking in several guests were gathered around the front desk asking the single staff person for refunds. I should have taken the hint - but due to the late hour did not. I did however ask to see my prepaid/booked room and it was barely passable. One bottle of half used shampoo, one towel, one hand towel, and a bed that looked like it had been slept in with covers thrown back over! We had just been to the nearby Walmart for dorm supplies and decided to break open our own new sheets! We left the AC on all night just to lessen the smoking smell in this "non-smoking room" My daughter refused to take a shower there in the morning and went straight to her dorm room to freshen up!

Nice Staff Terrible ConditionsPosted Sep 2, 2013
Pros: Staff and location
Cons: Sheets that fit make sure non smoking rooms are not smokey.
Location: Great location close to Appalachian trail and Virginia horse park.
Plastic covers on mattress with a badly fitted sheet over the top that comes off so you end up on the noisy uncomfortable plastic cover. The non smoking room smelt smokey and stale. cleanliness was ok but this hotel should have a makeover 15 years ago.

Decent for the moneyPosted Aug 5, 2013
Cons: The front desk staff should appear more professional.
Room was clean and well-kept but the front desk staff did not appear professional at all (jeans and tshirt) which did not give me much confidence in their ability to maintain a decent hotel. However, everything was clean and breakfast was free and hot.

Budget friendly, not sleep friendlyPosted Jul 31, 2013 on Hotels.com
The only rooms available were "smoking" rooms (Which I thought smoking in a building was banned in Virginia ages ago; apparently not) but it was a last minute and budget trip so we went with it anyway. Could hardly breath due to smoke smell. Slept with the window open, which helped very little. The handle of the bathroom door was bent so it couldn't be locked, and we were without the typical shampoo and soap (which we later got from the front desk). The beds weren't too terribly uncomfortable, but the pillows were almost as flat as the sheets. Extremely uncomfortable. Not sure if it was due to the window being open, but the room got hot and cold repeatedly through the night. Waffle House is in the neighboring parking lot, which was a very convenient breakfast stop next morning, and Wal-Mart was within walking distance as well, which was nice. Other restaurants were pretty close as well (we ate at Applebees, decent service). Overall, I'd pay the extra money to go to a different hotel, since there's a fair few in the area, even if I am on a budget.
