Magic in Lisbon

Posted Nov 6, 2008
Staying in a 16th Century Palace in Lisbon is something everyone should do once. The hotel is warm, charming and utterly unusual. The rooms are unique, beautifully restored, and the view from most is fabulous. The location is perfect - right under (and part of) the most historic site in the city. If you can get past the lack of good internet, and the hotel's crazy aversion to salt & pepper and to appropriate bedding (spotlessly clean sheets, and nothing else, are provided), then you are in heaven. This hotel is best enjoyed with someone you love.

Kein Hotel sondern romantischer Gasthof

Posted Sep 24, 2008 on Hotels.com

Große Historie umsichtig restauriert bestens eingerichtet Top Lage Top Service

Beautiful, But Lazy and Mean Sprited

Posted Oct 21, 2007
Conde Neste allegedly described this as one of the 20 coolest hotels in the world. They need to get out more. The welcome was chilly enough as we waited 15 minutes in an empty reception to check in and be taken to our room. The room itself was beautifully restored, but some of the lights didn't work. It boasted a kitchen, but completely empty of anything you'd want to use in kitchen - not even a spoon, so what's the point? The bathroom had no shower. When we asked for a hair dryer we were told they were all being used by the other guests. Well, bully for them. When we asked for a bottle of water, it never arrived. And so it went on...All in all, a beatifully restored building with a great view, but for anything else you might reasonably expect from a hotel, they simply couldn't be bothered.
