We love Litchfield!Posted Jun 16, 2014
Location: @ The Corner: Awesome food & beer, go dressed or casual, by the adorable town green.....Peaches & Cream: awesome ice cream, walking distance.
We live about a 3-hour drive from Litchfield so we booked a room at the Tollgate as part of a hiking trip to nearby Bear Mountain. After our hike, we checked in with the owner's daughter who was just the best. Our room was bigger than expected, didn't have any special amenities, but was updated/clean and bright with TV --- a lot nicer than I expected from Inn-style lodging. And we absolutely loved the large bed with memory foam mattress after a long hike! We did not dine at the restaurant or Tavern (next time!), but the continental breakfast in the morning was great...Good quality, variety, and we sat outside on the patio which was beautifully decorated with potted flowers, and a too-cute baby bird in his nest! We had only planned to stay the night for rest, but now that we know how lovely it is, we would certainly visit Tollgate Inn and Litchfield again :)

Motel 6 quality at Hyatt pricesPosted May 26, 2014
Wow what a disappointment. From the outside it looks cute and inciting . Inside it smells like an antique store. Our room above the restaurant was in terrible shape. Please look elsewhere
A bit creepy and slightly confusingPosted May 19, 2014
We checked in to find a note with a key but did not see anyone (including any other guests) until after breakfast the next morning. The room was a little 'tired' but functional. The surroundings were a bit creepy.

OkPosted Jul 29, 2013
Pros: Location and better than other options in town.
Location: Good location and within driving distance to several attractions.
2nd time here and bed was great, service good and breakfast good. Too many stairs to room awakward going through restaurant to room. Better to deal direct with inn can accmodate requests better.

I would stay if i couldn't find another place.Posted Nov 25, 2012
Pros: The location was excellent for our needs and the breakfast.
Cons: The constant vibration in the room and the heater/AC unit in the room.
When we checked in we were given a room and i later received a call that it wasn't the right room. They did move our bags for us. It was difficult to open the new room because the key was having problems going into the door handle. There was wallpaper that was off the wall over the heater/air conditioner unit. That unit was very noisy. There also was another machine somewhere else that made the bed vibrate all night long. The sun in the morning streamed into the room as the blinds on the door were not very good. There were many broken slats. However, it was very quite in the halls and the free continental breakfast was very good. The staff was very friendly and i was told the young lady working on Thanksgiving was 3rd string.

A very quiet place to stay with that ole Inn feeling.Posted Nov 7, 2011
Location: Not far from Avon,Farmington and even Hartford. Follow 202 and you are good. We stopped in after a wedding because we had not power at home due to the storm, we were on day six. What a nice and pleasant discovery.
I loved this place and the owners are personally involved with you happiness. A quiet place if you want an olde school feel of New England. This is a get away for people from the city and only a few miles to antiques in Woodbury CT. If you want pools and gamerooms and noise this place is not for you. If you want an adultr get away this is very cool. Eric

Toll Gate Inn - foliage seasonPosted Oct 28, 2010
We were lucky to find an available room during the peak of foliage season in Litchfield Hills region of CT. Our room was very comfortable (#12) with bed, sofa, easy chair and two separate doors: a door from the Inn and one from outside on the deck. Convenient location to the many area highlights. We'd recommend this inn as well as return.

A charming innPosted Aug 4, 2010
Our overall impression of the inn was quite favorable. The bedroom / sitting area was very spacious and very nicely furnished. The staff was friendly and quick to provide for any needs. The only area lacking in our opinion was the condition of the bathroom, which could best be described as being in "fair" condition and not really in keeping with the atmosphere of the rest of the inn. The fixtures were mis-matched, old, and showing signs of rust stains, etc. The sink counter had a rusting bottle opener attached to the front and the formica was pealing off the corners. The wall under the sink was stained and the exhaust fan was extremely loud. We would definitely stay here again as the total experience was very good.
