“Pay a little more for serviced rooms, views and breakfast”
Liverpool is an expensive city to stay in so the Cocoon appears to be a relative bargain, even when you find out it has no windows and no breakfast in the rate. The location is certainly excellent. I won't recommend it only because there are much better options that include breakfast and great views for only a very little more money here on Expedia (as I later experienced).
My comments in no particular order:
The guy on reception was very welcoming and helpful.
The Cocoon is an intriguing (and narrow) warren of rooms in the basement, but there was a fire exit right near to my room so no worries about that.
The room was clean, modern and well appointed with no problems receiving (unsecured) wi-fi on my laptop despite being at the furthest end of the corridor. Excellent en-suite shower, and a large flat panel TV. Also hairdryer and Tea and coffee, hence the 3 stars are justified. I did sleep well here and heard no noise. Airport taxis are easy to book from the direct phone in reception.
HOWEVER, the lady on reception in the morning was unable to get our room safe to work so I could not use it. She did not offer to keep any of my valuables for me, assuring me that "the rooms are not serviced every day" so nobody would be coming into my room. This means you get no clean towels and no new tea bags/coffee sachets and nobody makes your bed up. This has to be pretty poor for the money. (We had booked just two nights.)
