Excellent facilities... great food in the restaurant. Spa, steam room and sauna all inclusive of the price and very good. Only let down slightly by the tired décor in the rooms, but when mention to the staff was told “They are all due to be refurbished in the coming year”

Garden tour for Nrowegians,
Posted Jan 21, 2012
Pros: location, and a lift.
Cons: The hotel is in need of a major refresh, no free WiFi so could not plan ahead..
Location: Llangollen is an interestin village and central to many day tours
The hotel is tired, the staff are doing their best with new owners recently taking over, major investment is probable to bring up to standard

The Wild Pheasant, Llangollen
Posted Jan 24, 2011 on Hotels.com
Booked a two-night stay in November 2011 for my fiancee's birthday, just for a couple of days getting-away-from-it-all. And we couldn't have asked for better. Peaceful, tranquil setting with the town of Llangollen just a short 5 minute walk away, this hotel is also handily placed for the shopaholics with Wrexham and Chester within half an hour's drive. We were welcomed by a very friendly lady on reception, and also the delightful chambermaid who stopped what she was doing to have a chat, direct us to our room, even holding the door open for us AND making a huge fuss of our pet jack russell dog. YES, the Wild Pheasant accepts pets. What a wonderful suprise to find such a lovely hotel that would also welcome four-legged friends - albeit only in the "old" half of the complex but that was fine for us. And whilst "Jack" wasn't allowed in the restaurant for breakfast, he could join us for our evenings spent in the on-site pub and was made more than welcome, the staff there always making sure he had a bowl of fresh water and on one occasion even bringing him a bone from the kitchen !! And in such a lovely rural setting - the beautiful Horseshoe Pass only 3 miles away - there was ample opportunity to stretch his little legs !! We also visited the spa area - unfortunately without Jack, aaaahhh - and enjoyed a lovely relaxing couple of hours in the various hydro pools, sauna and steam room. Didn't get round to enjoying the other treatments on offer - hairdressing, massages, etc - another time without doubt. Would highly recommend this lovely hotel - we will definately return.

Big let down
Posted Jan 12, 2011
Location: location is lovely. It is a great spot. You can walk to the llangollen canal and go to the viaduct which we did. However takes around 2 hours each way walking from Llangollen.
When booking online the hotel looks lovely! However on arrival you will find that all the photos online are of the more expensive suits. There are no photos of the old part of the hotel, with most of the rooms in. When we went into our room the sink was cracked and the room was really outdated (not as shown online) The Tap had black muddy water coming out. The spa is nice but a lot smaller than it looks online. Staff were friendly but don't arrive for breakfast towards end of period as you will not be served. Lovely location. However I would not go back to this hotel.

Happy to return
Posted Jan 18, 2011
We had booked for a five night break, so turned up not really knowing what to expect. Staff were friendly on our arrival, & reception area gave a favourable impression. It would have been nice to have been taken to our room to explain electrics etc. Room was comfortable & a good sized bed, however an undersheet would be a good idea due to buttons on the mattress being felt throught the bottom sheet. Food was well prepared & cooked & dinners in the restaurant very enjoyable, however if you are there for any length of time, then the menu becomes repetetive. Bar food over expensive. TV in our room was unwatchable! poor sound & extremely snowy, so probaby just as well there was such a small selection of channels (Midlands BBC1 in virtual black & white. Despite these little niggles would be happy to return & consider upgrading to a superior room.
