convenient location

At 5 minutes from the airport, Hotel Loiu is a great place to stay at before an early flight. The staff was professional and very helpful; the rooms were fine and the buffet breakfast was copious and opened promptly at 5:30 am, as advertised. The only draw back was that the on-site restaurant was closed during our visit. However, the staff directed us to several eateries nearby.

Handy to Bilbao Airport

The price was very reasonable and included a free breakfast for people over 60. The breakfast was a cold buffet and sufficient. The room overlooked the front patio had twin beds, closet, desk and desk chair but no comfy chair for reading, windows that opened and a good bathroom with tub and bidet, a small bar of soap (The real thing, not that gel in a container attached too high up the wall for a person taking a tub bath) shampoo, shower cap and gel. The lighting was good. There was a tv and two bedside lamps. I hadn't intended to eat dinner, but the daily menu choice was so appetizing, that I succumbed to temptation and signed up for it. What I thought was a choice of two starters turned out to be not a choice; I got both. The duck salad with bits of crispy bacon, fried croutons, lettuce and a mustardy dressing was delicious. The sea bass with a side of "pisto" (a tomato, pepper, onion, zucchini medley), served on a bed of potatoes was also excellent. There was a choice of three wines, at minimally escalating prices, included in the menu (which therefore had three different prices depending on your choice of wine) and the waitress suggested the middle one which I chose and really liked. Then she insisted I take the rest of the bottle with me! The hotel must be in the flight pattern as planes started flying overhead before 7 a.m. but weren't an annoyance as the windows seemed to insulate the room fairly well from the noise.

Perfect for the airport

This is a friendly, clean and comfortable hotel, ideally situated for Bilbao airport. A bus ride to the city leaves from across the road, and avoids the hassle of parking.

NOT RECOMMENDED

The front desk was very helpful but the hotel is very far from the town center. It's close to the airport if that's what you want, but quite far from anything else. Very noisy becuase of the planes and NO AC. One of the worst hotels we stayed at on our trip in Spain 2012.

Bit off the track but a nice place

Pros: The restaurant - it was a quite night when we were their but the food/wine was fantastic and a good nice for three courses!
Cons: The planes you could hear
Location: About a 10 minute drive from Bilbao, the town is very small and does not have much going on in it so not many options for dinner
It's nice enough and in a nice little quite town. The town does not have much to offer however. Close enough to drive to Bilbao for the day. Was good to have parking though, and the restaurant was great for what you paid. A little noisy with the planes.
