Exceptionally clean, but loud and hot.

Posted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: The breakfast is delicious, but they only serve until 9:00 a.m., so if you want to sleep late, forget it. It is on the edge of a park area.
Cons: Some sense of actual "reception" would be nice. A little more autonomy in going in and out. FANS!!
Location: Right next to Paddington station. Major bus routes pass nearby. Nice, inexpensive restaurants and food stores next door. Liquor stores too.
We came face-to-face with about three different "receptionists". Only one seemed to even register that we were there. You have to give them your key every time you go out and ring to get back in. Annoying if you just want to get outside for fresh air for a bit. No air conditioning, which is not unusual in Europe. But they don't even have fans for the rooms. Located directly across from subsidized housing and the first night we listened to an insane male pound on the door and demanding to be let in to see his "girlfriend" for at least a half hour. Other nights, just lots of yelling.

Small, basic but works

Posted Jul 8, 2014
Pros: Clean and tidy. Breakfast included.
Cons: Ventilation and air flow, the room was quite stuffy. The down lights generated a fair bit of heat. The tv reception wasn't very good either.
Location: Kensington gardens, paddington station.
A small room, but recently renovated by the look, clean and tidy. Got an overnight stay, was fine.

Handy hotel for overnight stay in London

Posted Jun 19, 2014
We were very happy with our overnight stay. The staff were very pleasant. Reception took our luggage upstairs for us... important for us given my husband had not long had open heart surgery. They also guided us on the best way to do some sight seeing. Breakfast was a typical English breakfast and waitstaff were very efficient. While the rooms are very very small, this has always been my experience of London, so we had no expectations but we did manage to fit in our two big suitcases at the end of the room enough out of the way so the space wasn't impossible. Excellent room rate for London, handy to Paddington Station for that quick trip to Heathrow... overall would recommend.

Staff were very nice and helpful. With this place you're getting an inexpensive hotel around Paddington Station and you are getting a good deal. Don't expect luxury.

You Get What You Pay For

Pros: Hot showers and excellent wifi.
Cons: Having face towels, a towel rack/hook and a shower designed so that when showering the entire tiny bathroom does not get all wet.
Location: The hotel is a few restaurants and pubs nearby, as well as shops to purchase drinks and snacks. Transportation is easily accessed.
Chose the hotel mainly for the convenient location to Paddington Station which meant we could walk to Belvedere Hotel in about 5 minutes, then when leaving take the Heathrow Express for our flight to our next destination. The 11/2 phone booth size "bathroom" was challenging even for a small person like myself; a tall, larger person will have great difficulty moving about in there. However, there is plenty of hot water for showers. We were fortunate to get a room (#23) on the second floor with a balcony facing Norfolk Square. But the excellent wifi was the deciding factor for us. We also enjoyed the English breakfast, which does not vary, so 3 days of the same was long enough. All in all the Belvedere Hotel is good value for the price.

Not for the feeble

Posted Apr 28, 2014
Cons: Warn customers if they are being assigned top floor rooms. "No lift" is not sufficient.
Location: It is near Paddington Station which is convenient, but there is some noise from the train traffic.
The only reason I would not stay here again is that, according to the receptionist, single rooms are located only on the 3rd and 4th floors or in the basement. Dragging my suitcase up four flights of narrow, steep stairs is not my idea of a good start to a hotel stay. Apparently the cleaning staff agree, because the vacuum cleaner isn't used as often as it should be. The basement room that I refused was dark and smelled of recent renovations and next to the breakfast room and staff areas. On the plus side: my room had apparently been recently painted and the bathroom fixtures were new. Why no towel rack or shelf for toiletries? Everything was clean. The room was well-lit and the bed comfortable. The rate includes a "full English breakfast" which is increasingly not available. However, Paddington is filled with cafes offering cheap meals, so is this an advantage?
