The definition of luxury is professionalism and customer service. Dukes Hotel lives up to its standards by offering old-world hospitality and family-style service in the heart of Mayfair. When an unforeseen change happened on my reservation the staff acted with compassion and offered their best efforts to resolve the issue and provide me a pleasant stay. They went above and beyond to make sure I left a happy customer. Dukes Hotel is my go-to home away from home in London. I look forward to my next stay at Dukes and to the memorable fine dining experiences at their Great British Restaurant. 10/10

London hotels can really be hit and miss but the room we had at Dukes was really good - comfortable bed, gorgeous shower, huge soft towels, really quiet. The only reason I can't give it a 5 star is due to no fault of the hotel and the issue was very well handled by the staff but there was no water the next morning. No shower or toilet flushing. Beyond the hotel's control. And I would go stay there again.

Quaint, charming but not comfortable
I have stayed at the Dukes many times in the last 15 years. It is comfortable and friendly with a certain charm. Unfortunately I feel unable to stay there again. Starting with the positive, the bed is comfortable, the rooms clean and the food good. However the hotel is tired, the lift, a quaint contraption, failed 3 times while we were there, the bathroom is a bit rough around the edges with sealant missing from joints and there is absolutely no drawer storage in the room for clothes. Beyond this it is impossible to actually experience the charm and comfort that is undeniably possible. In the drawing room there are never tables available as they are all booked by non residents, all of them, all of the time. There is a reason for this, the food is excellent, the afternoon tea to die for - but want to sit and read the Sunday paper or a book, no that isn’t possible as that table is reserved. Every time I asked for a table I was met with incredulity as if I could assume such a thing. It got tiring. Similarly with the bar, a famous martinis lounge, that also requires a reservation, so no relaxed dropping in. Quaint it most certainly is, but comfortable - not in the slightest

Old school luxury
A lovely relaxed unpretentious and comfortable Hotel. Service is spot on, room very comfortable and as it was my wife’s Birthday they put a birthday card, chocolate cake and a bottle of Proseco in the room. It’s a small and intimate Hotel , so no grand public rooms but instead very nice drawing room for tea, the legendary bar and nice GBR restaurant. You are in the centre of London but it’s quiet and peaceful. In its understatement and old school service it’s quintessential British, it almost feels like traveling back in time.

Alas poor dukes! The rooms are so sad and uncheery. Tight quarters, two tiny prints on the wall, no other art or touches of style….funerary draperies, dark maroon. The Charm has vanished. Breakfast was sub par and spotty service. We appreciated the front s desk staff but the rooms are gloomy and if you like food trays left in the halls, you can count on them.

Hotel was obviously very charming but quite disappointed with the service. We wanted opinions on a restaurant that has been written up in almost every article recently about London top restaurants. The concierge had never even heard of it and told us it was not worth it to go. Hotel is cute and a classic but if you’re going for comfort and modernity it is not for you.

Staff is supurb. BUT we were moved from a "junior suite" to a "premier" room. The junior suite was $200 per night more. The rooms were identical in every way. When i inquired i was told that they were not the same. They were exactly the same . Why was i overcharged for a suite that was a room not a suite at all ?

We stayed here at the tail end of a 6 week European trip and we stayed at many good hotels and enjoyed them all. I can say that this was our favorite. A beautiful traditional historical gem of a hotel in the heart of St James’ with a wonderful friendly staff. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Will definitely be on our return list on a future trip.

The person at check in was so friendly and welcoming and they informed me that I was able to book a table at the famous bar because I was a hotel guest. Without knowing this there would’ve been a long wait! The bar is fantastic and the hotel is a beautiful old building that was very clean.

Nice hotel, be careful about room allocation
This was my first time staying at Dukes. Good location close to all the amenities of this area of London. Tucked away in a side street off St. James's Street. Not easy to find at first but nice and secluded. I was given a good, recently refurbished room with a great bathroom. The one drawback was the room's aspect or lack thereof. The good sized window looked out on a dismal, almost Dickensian, yard. Despite the window size virtually no daylight penetrated the room. This makes the room rate charged excessive. The hotel's salvation is the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. Another niggle was the 5% room service charge levied at checkout. This was a new one on me and not brought to my attention on checking in or mentioned on my reservation conformation by Hotels.Com.
