A Restful Night Before a Long Haul Flight

Posted Jul 3, 2015
On arrival we were welcomed by an extremely courteous trainee member of staff who dealt with us quickly and efficiently whilst engaging us in polite conversation regarding our forthcoming trip. The room was well equipped, clean and quiet, despite being at the airport. We woke fully refreshed and ready for the long flight ahead. A very pleasant stay that took the stress out of travelling.

Relatively convenient once you find it

Posted Jul 1, 2015
Location: This is a hotel at the airport. Unless you have business or friends nearby your options are limited.
The advertising for this hotel made it sound like it was right in the South Terminal. However, you have to go outside, through the car park and on an elevator to get there. Really not far, but not as close as I had hoped. It is was a nice place to stay for an overnight layover. Comfortable. Welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast buffet.

Smoked

No non-smoking room available despite reservation. No soap in the room. No well functioning air conditioning. Not a good experience.

Convenient for Gatwick Airport

Posted Jul 1, 2015
Pros: Location to the terminal meant no fussing with shuttle buses or taxis.
Location: Don't suppose there's much nearby apart from the airport or the railway station.
Check in was fine although they didn't have the room type I booked. I had my room changed which could have been why I couldn't log into their wifi in the room. As it was for one night and I arrived late I didn't bother to get it sorted.

It was ok

Posted Jun 30, 2015
You need a hotel at the airport? This is fine. We needed somewhere which didn't require a transfer as we took the train to Gatwick. There were numerous hotels which offered a transfer from/to the airport but adding the time and effort and cost into the equation we settled for one at the airport. So, location was great. Check-in was ok. Room was ok if a little tired. Bed was a bit slopey / saggy. Food was ok ish. We had the buffet from the garden restaurant. It was ok. The staff were on occasions overly familiar. I also saw the chef remove potatoes from a plate with chilli on back into a dish of potatoes. I'm not vegetarian but if I was, I'd had complained immediately.

Thank you for choosing the Hilton London Gatwick for your accommodation on this occasion. It is clear from the scores given that we could have done better and I am sorry for any shortfalls or disappointment that you experienced. We can and do do better so I hope we might have the opportunity to demonstrate that for you in the future. Best regards, Karen Ballam

Not good

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Room was very dated, Luke warm water so couldn't take a hot bath or shower. The mattress on the bunk beds was soiled so my son went to bed the the view of yellow stained mattress. Overall a bit of a shock and not your average Hilton standard! Next time will definitely spend a bit more and stay at the Sofitel!

Nice Hotel close to Airport Departure

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: Location to Airport departure
Cons: The coffee shop could have stayed opened longer.
Location: The hotel was in walking distance of the Airport departure, and there were shops and restaurants over there that gave more choices of menu.
Picked hotel because it was in walking distance of the Airport departure. Was surprised at how quiet it was in the hotel room. The room was clean and tidy.

What? Pay 15 pounds to access the internet?

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Cons: Don't charge for the internet.
It's an airport hotel, it does what it needs to do. But shockingly, the hotel charges 15 pounds for 24 hour access to the internet. That's crazy! I can't recall the last time I was told I had to pay to use the internet in a hotel -- it's not 2010 anymore, Batman. Very unimpressed and I'd certainly stay elsewhere next time.

Proximité avec l'aéroport

Posted Jun 29, 2015
