“Brent Cross”

People were unfriendly and the shuttle was not convenient as far as timing. I checked in to my room only to find it hadn't been cleaned (and when they did clean it, I still found items left by the previous guest).

“Great value, good location”

The hotel was a great value for the money and it was quite conveniently located on the Tube's Northern Line (quick access to Central London), aside from being right next to a very good shopping mall. The fact that they maintain a shuttle service to and from the Brent Cross tube station was also a major sell for me. The hotel is small and the rooms are small (unlike in the US), like a lot of things in London, but we had enough space (I traveled with my husband and 2 kids ages 11 and 6), and it was always clean and well-maintained. Airconditioning was excellent. There was an empty minibar in the room, making it easy for us to buy breakfast items and have a place to store it so we didn't need to have a full breakfast every day and could get going immediately in the morning. The hotel also serves a daily breakfast buffet with ample offerings, and since kids eat free, it can be a really good value for families. Internet access en suite is available for a fee, and the connection is quite fast. The hotel staff was always gracious and eager to please. The shuttle drivers were wonderful and very helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

When to go

We were in London for Easter week, and apparently there are two major Bank holidays that take place at this time - Good Friday and Easter Monday. A lot of stores and even public attractions are closed or have limited hours, and Easter Sunday, almost everything is closed, so you do lose a couple of days. However, on the other side of this caveat, there are great travel deals to be had at this time of year. So, if like us, you are ok with compressing your schedule a bit to accommodate the potential lost hours/days, then this is a wonderful time to go. We didn't feel like we missed out on a lot. We were still able to use the days when attractions were closed to do things like walk in Hyde Park and visit other little towns on the Tube's Northern line.

Getting around

The best value for money as far as transportation goes is the 7-day Oystercard, which allows unlimited access on the Tube and the London buses. My husband and I had these, while our 6-year-old could still ride free (accompanied by us). and our 11-year old could use daily travelcards which were discounted for use after 9:30am. If you factor in that each potential ride on the Tube is about GBP4.00, then paying GBP30.00 for a week is a fantastic value.

What to pack

You can potentially experience all four seasons in one day in London, so make sure you pack a light sweater, waterproof rain jacket, and waterproof shoes/boots. Also an umbrella for those sudden downpours!

Must see

Our kids loved seeing the British Museum, which has something for everyone! Admission is free. You can't possibly see everything here in one day, so set aside at least a couple of days to wander around. Also, when we booked our Sightseeing Tour in the US, it came with a free river cruise which was just super as it takes you down the Thames and drops you off at the Tower of London. Excellent way to see a lot of the city's landmarks along the way. And of course, don't miss taking a flight on the London Eye. It's a little pricey, but completely worth it, and you'll remember it forever.

Shopping

Shopping in the London can be mostly expensive, but there are also bargains to be had. Brent Cross Shopping Center, which is right next door to the Holiday Inn Brent Cross, is awesome! Lots of shops and places to eat, even a supermarket. Don't miss walking along Oxford Street, Regent Street (pay a visit to the famous Hamleys toy store if you have kids), South Molton Street, and New Bond Street, at least for the eye candy. Great values on clothes for all ages can be found at Marks and Spencer, an institution in the UK. The variety of merchandise and famous brands is unsurpassed at Harrods of course.

“GOOD HOTEL FOR THE BEST RATE”

The price was good considering how expensive hotels can be in London. I traveled with two teenagers. This hotel offers a shuttle service to the Brent Cross underground station. Bus route 189 runs 24 hrs from the Oxford Circus stop.

The hotel is in the Brent Cross neighborhood 30 minutes north of central London. Nearby is the Brent Cross shopping center with the usual stores, two supermarkets, fast food restaurants and more

Getting there

Take the Underground's Northern Line to Brent Cross station, from there call the Holiday Inn shuttle or walk (10 minutes). Can also take the bus 189 which runs 24 hrs from the Oxford Circus station (30minutes)

Dining

There is a restaurant at the hotel, which we didn't use. At the Brent Shopping Centre there are a few restaurants and fast food places as well as two supermarkets
