Lancaster Gate Hotel

Posted Apr 12, 2014
Pros: The location -pleasant area within walking distance of many of the well known London landmarks.
Cons: Hotel more than lived up to expectations and would definitely stay here again.
Location: Perfect location just one street back from Hyde Park. Wide choice of restaurants nearby.
The hotel was in a perfect location - one street back from Hyde Park - and fairly quiet (by London standards). Check in/out was quick and efficient and rooms clean and of a reasonable size. We paid extra for breakfast which we found to be very good with variety of choices available,

London city hotel in Bayswater, close to tube

Posted Apr 11, 2014
Pros: food was good
Location: good location for Hyde Park and Central Line Underground
Did not obtain the type of room booked --twin instead of double. Room very small. Poor sound-proofing Public areas clean and smart. Nice dining room - good breakfast. Not exactly good value for money

Good Location

Posted Apr 11, 2014
Pros: We chose the hotel on its location, and were not disappointed.
Cons: The shower was lethal, minute adjustments turned the water from cool to scalding hot, apart from that everything else was fine.
Location: Hyde Park, just across the road, short tube trip into West End and Theatreland attractions
Great location , good staff, very happy to return in the future!

Comfortable hotel, close to Hyde Park and the Tube

Posted Apr 6, 2014
Pros: Its proximity to the tube and Hyde Park. The neighborhood also felt very safe.
We had a great experience at the Lancaster Gate hotel. The room was very comfortable and quiet. Also very clean. It was also a decent size for a city hotel. The location of the hotel was excellent as it was a very short walk away from 3 Tube stops as well as Hyde Park. We were also within walking distance from Paddington Station and therefore had easy access to the Heathrow Express, saving a taxi fare from Heathrow. The hotel staff was very pleasant. A lot of dining choices 5-10 minutes walk away. No doubt I would stay here again.

Good location, not much else

We stayed here for 7 nights and while we enjoyed the hotel's acceptable proximity to the nearest tube station (10 min walk) the hotel itself was quite poor in quality. Despite being a hotel in London, don't expect the staff to have a good command of English. Here were the top most vexing points about the hotel: 1. The toilet did not flush. It would take 5-10 pumps of the knob to get it to go. I have never encountered this problem in developed or developing countries I have visited. 2. The shower had two settings: scalding and freezing. The only usable water was in the 3 seconds where the water goes from one temperature to another. 3. Our 'double bed' consisted of two single beds pushed together. For some reason, despite this there was a gap that would appear overnight about 6 inches wide that would wake us up in the middle of the night. 4. The 'clean' towels smelled worse than dirty towels. Normally we dont even notice the smell of something like towels. 5. We were coming into the hotel with our bags and there were 3 front desk staff unoccupied at their desks just watching us struggle to get through the narrow doors with no instinct to help.

Convenient in London

The staff was very helpful and the room and bath were spacious for London. The hotel is at the edge of Hyde Park and a good base for seeing London. Everything was very clean.

Nice hotel

Posted Mar 12, 2014
Stayed 2 nights while in London and was very comfortable. Safe in room you could program your own combo too which was nice. About a 4 block walk from the tube station, but basically right across the street from Kensington/Hyde Park. Nice restaurant down the street. Breakfast buffet was nice but a little pricey. Charge for Wi-Fi, which I thought kind of odd for a classy hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. We arrived a little early and room was ready. Toilet was difficult to flush.

North of Kensington Garden

Posted Mar 11, 2014
Hotel is in a good location. Near Kensington Garden and Hyde Park and short walk to Queensway, where restaurants, small shops and a mall are located. A little further walk is Notting Hill. It is close to the Underground and buses, so getting around is easy. The single room I stayed in was a adequate size for me. It was not spacious, but it was not cramp. Unfortunately it is a odd corridor that I had to climb stairs to. This wasn't a problem for me but I can see it would an inconvenience or problem for others. The corridor had 5 units and it smelled of cigarettes. The first night it wasn't bad but remaining days it was terrible at times. I had to have the window open to air out the room. I can hear people in the next room talking (one night arguing at 3am) and when doors are opened and closed. Even when someone lock their doors I could hear it. There is WiFi in the hotel, but you have to pay for it. The bed was okay, the pillow is flat and offer little support. There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel, but I didn't go in. There were plenty of eatery nearby that was better priced. Also there were small grocery stores a few blocks away. I purchased small items from the stores for late nights or early morning snack. There is no refrigerator in the room. The room is clean. But the smell of smoking from the other rooms was unpleasant.
