“Too expensive for comfort”

A nice location, but the bathroom had a sour smell, the small TV was balanced on the top of a cupboard with a non-fucntioning remote control. There was no Internet except in the lobby decorated with an out-of-order plaque. At half the price, I'd still go somewhere else.

“Don't go to this hotel”

Horrible hotel. The room was tiny, toilet never flushed on the first try, only had like 5 tv channels, horrible breakfast, and the elevator wasn't working so we had to climb up 4 flights of steep, narrow, winding stairs up to our rooms, with our luggage.

“Affordable hotel, good location”

The room is clean, with good size for the price , the staff is ok, the neighborhood is very safe (we check out at 4 AM because of our flight depart was early and walked to Paddington) , is near a Park, overall is a good hotel for the price you pay.

“Reasonable cost; great location”

Close to Paddington Station/Hyde Park in Lancaster Gate neighborhood. The room was a little worn and the floor had a slope to it, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean without the mildew smell that other older places seem to have.

“choose somewhere else”

we recently traveled to London with our 2 teenage daughters and wanted a quad room. Booked the London Guard knowing it wouldn't be great but at least clean and convenient. Well, it was clean (although shabby) but since the Lancaster Gate tube station was closed at the time, it was not convenient. The receptionist barely looked up when we checked in and we had to ask where our room was, when breakfast was etc. to which we received a glare and one word answers. Our room, which was not easy to find, smelled musty and stale. Thankfully we were able to wash our clothes at our next hotel. Breakfast was fine and service was pleasant. There are too many other hotels in London at this price point to put up with rude service.

“Great Breakfast, Nice Service, Uncomfortable Bed”

The best thing about our stay here was the complementary breakfast. The room was big. The furniture was old and there was an extra bed that we did not need, so, it felt a little crowded. The bed was too hard and not comfortable (not much of a mattress). The bathroom was nice. For the price, I think we could have done better. We would not stay here again unless it was less expensive or we were able to get a newer room with a better bed.

“Good value/convenience in London!”

Good location: easy tube access just a few short blocks away; restaurants also nearby; quiet street. Rooms sufficient size, air conditioned, adequate bathroom, clean sheets and towels, even refrigerator in room! Beds pretty comfortable, too. Continental breakfast (included in price of room) was basic, but fine. Staff was friendly. We had an issue the first night (had three triple beds, rather than one double and one single, as requested), but staff rectified that for the second night.

“Have already reccommended to friends and family”

The location was excellent. Very quiet neighborhood, not far from shops, restaurants and Underground. Was there in summer: Air conditioning worked great and even a fan in the room for those of us with "Hot Flashes". Lift was in good order and no trouble getting into breakfast in the morning. Front desk was always courteous and helpful, with prompt responses. Beds were comfortable and hot water was plentiful. What more could you ask?

Traveler's tip
Family size room was adequate to our needs(two adults & two teenagers)tho a little crowded with all our luggage. We made an effort to sign up for the first sitting at breakfast and be there on time because it fills up quickly.

“Good experience”

Stayed in a room for three (myself, wife, and teen daughter). The room was what I expected for the price but had trouble with the hairdryer, but the staff brought a new one into the room the next day and it worked perfect. Continental breakfast was sufficient. Hotel is tucked away in a quiet side of the street. If you have been to London before looking for an adequate hotel for a bed and breakfast, this one is sufficient. If you have not been to London, prepare for small elevators, smaller than normal American rooms and bathrooms. Just enjoy the experience.

Traveler's tip
Buy and use the Oyster card and use the buses and tube (underground). Lancaster Gate station (central line) is two to three blocks away (about a quarter of a mile away) and is very efficient. Also, take your ATM card and use it at the banks to get cash if needed. The charge on my card was $2.00 per transaction and the exchange rate is better than travelers checks and bank rates. You cannot beat the convenience either.

“Good budget hotel.”

Generally the hotel stay was good. It is conveniently situsted with a good bus route to Piocadilly, Victoria etc. The only criticism that I have is regarding the breakfast. You have to book the time you want it the night before and sometimes your selceted time is already fully booked.

Traveler's tip
Oxford Street is close by.
