“great location”

Hotel was located a block from underground and leathrow express. The staff was always friendly and willing to help. I was quite impress with the total experience. My room was large enough although a bigger tv would have been nice. The breakfast that the hotel serves was quite good and a great value. I would stay there again

“Great Budget Choice”

First off, if you're expecting a U.S. style hotel with lots of amenities, you should move on. However, if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in your room and basically just need a safe, clean place with an excellent location, then you might want to consider this establisment. Yes it is old, has loud creaking floors, small rooms and no air conditioning. However, this is our second visit at this hotel, and we found that it has served our needs very well and is relatively very easy on the pocket book, freeing up money for us to spend on other things in England. The front desk and maid staff were all very polite, helpful, and efficient and the location (two blocks from Paddington) was outstanding.

Getting there
Easy access from Heathrow via either the Underground (about 60 min), cab, or the Heathrow Express to Paddington. Hotel is located just 2 1/2 to 3 blocks from Paddington. We made the walk in about 5 minutes.
Other
Like a lot of hotels in Europe, this one has no air conditioning. We were unlucky enough to visit during a heat wave in London (91.4F), but it cools down quite a bit at night and an open window with a fan (they call them "ventilators") provided by the front desk helped immensely.

“Convenient hotel close to Paddington Station”

The sole purpose of staying at this hotel was just to have a place to stay for one night, after arriving in London from NYC late in the evening. We were going to stay at a much nicer and expensive place the following two nights, so we wanted an inexpensive hotel that we could walk to from Paddington Station after coming into to the city using the Heathrow Express from Heathrow Airport. As it was advertised, it was two blocks walking distance from the trains at Paddington, very easy to get to. The hotel is located close to a nice neighborhood with restaurants and night life and right in the Norfolk Plaza Park area. There are several other hotels lined up and down the street where this hotel is located. If you are looking for an inexpensive (by London standards) and clean place to stay, this will do. There are NO FRILLS here, NO LUXURY, just a simple place to stay. Beds are not that comfortable, gave the impression of a sheet and blanket over plywood. You get what you pay for, so I was not disappointed, because we saw the disparity of pricing vs. other larger and more expensive hotels. If you are going to be staying here for 2-3 nights and are in London to sight see and explore, and you are not into having a really nice place to stay, this could be the place for you. Overall, it was not a bad experience and we did indeed get what we paid for. If we were in the same situation on our next trip to London, would not hesitate to stay there again.

Area recommendations
This area is a mix of restaurants and stores/shops. It seemed to be safe. The really nice hotels and restaurants/shops will be found in the Mayfair area, which is not far away. But bring plenty of British Pounds or Euros, we have traveled quite a bit and London is by far one of the most expensive places we have been, along with Paris.
Getting around
Getting into London from Heathrow Airport is VERY EASY using the Heathrow Express, although it is not inexpensive. The cost is less than a Taxi, but the TIME it takes to get from the airport to Paddington Station is only about 15 minutes. You can count on 45-60 mins taking a taxi. The other thing, get a map of London and where you are going to stay and what areas you want to see. If the hotel/area you want to stay in is relatively close to Paddington Station, then is worthwhile to use the method to come into the city. Otherwise, Paddington may not be that useful to use as a means of getting into the city from Heathrow Airport. You can easily take a taxi from Paddington to get to where you need to go if its in the general area for less than 10 british pounds.
Other
BRING British Pounds if you are staying in UK. They do take Euros, but they give you back British Pounds for change. Plus you may lose out on the currency transaction using Euros. Overall, Londoners were friendly, We had a great trip. The Tube is easy to use, but again, study and map out your trip before you get here! It saves time and energy.

“good experience”

Room was adequate and clean, bath was clean and lots of hot water. Heat system worked... We stayed 3 days.... No serious issues at all. I think the experience was just as good or better than many European hotels in large cities at a higher price level. Maybe some other reviewers got a bad room, had bad luck, or expected too much! Wi fi did not work but staff let me use their computers instead. We previously stayed at another hotel in same neighborhood for more money. Norfolk Plaza was better. Location is great and there is a train to the airport and subway a few blocks away. All staff members i spoke with were extremely accommodating and always volunteered to help or provide advice.

“Would pick somewhere else”

I arrived late from Heathrow but the location of the hotel is very close to Paddington Station as I wanted. At first they could not find my reservation but after a couple of minutes did. Elevator is very small and clastraphobic. Room was equally small but not as much as the bathroom which I think at one time was a closet! I spent two nights in the hotel and did not have breakfast (extra charge) or use any of the hotels other facilities. Overall for the price it was OK , the location is great for the station or underground, no more than 3 mins. Just be prepared for compact sizes of rooms.

Area recommendations
If you are prepared to pay more, I recommend staying on the South Bank of the river Thames close to the London Eye or Tower Bridge. It is the best location to get a great flavor and see some of the great sites London has to offer, Westminster, Buckingham Palace etc.

“Not impressed”

The hotel entrance and lobby is nice. The room was old and had a sink with signs that it had been broken once and someone glued it together again. It was clean, though I could not sleep as I could hear the steps of other guests whenever they walk on the wooden floor. Although my room was supposed to be on the 2nd floor, it was not served by the lift. Actually it was located somewhere in between the 2nd and the 3rd floors. Not good if you have to "climb" up the stairs with heavy suitcase. Location is great. Walkin distance to Paddington tube and train station.

“London- August 09”

I stayed at Norfolk Plaza Hotel in August 2009 for 7 nights (the first 3 nights in a room with 2 twin beds and then when my sister joined us we switched to a room with 3 twin beds). The first room was actually quite large, much larger than I expected based on my previous 2 visits to London. The room with 3 twin beds was small once we brought in all of our luggage, but still larger than I expected. FYI- This hotel does NOT have air conditioning. The week we were there the temps were in the upper 80s the entire time. The staff was nice and found a fan for us to use in the room. The best part about this hotel was the location. Across from a nice park and about 1/2 way down the block so it was pretty quite (our first room faced the street and we had the window open the entire time and it wasn't a problem). It is also only 2 blocks from Paddington Station so there is great access to the Tube, Trains and Heathrow Express. (There is also pretty good quick food and shopping options at the train station... so we did not have breakfast at the hotel.) It is also only about a 10 minute walk to the north side of Hyde Park. Overall this is a good hotel for the money. It is not new and no where near luxury.... but a good hotel for the price we paid.

Traveler's tip
Skip breakfast at the hotel and go to Paddington Station

“Jury's still out.”

As regards location, it is in a very convenient spot. There was one particular receptionist who was extremely helpful and friendly. When I first arrived, the room was a far cry from what was touted on their virtual tour. I was away for a day, but when I returned the room got a little sprucing up. It was quite stuffy at first, but when the window was opened that cleared up.

Traveler's tip
Remember to travel with a voltage converter. UK goes on 220~240 Voltage.
