Very nice hotel, lots of character. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. Staff were very pleasant.

Overpriced

Too expensive for what you got Overpriced hotel in London, nice staff, good location, but this hotel should reduce its fees, it's like 3 star hotel

I only stayed overnight and since I tend to find London to be very cold and damp, the hotel room was a great respite!

Nice hotel close to business centre and transport

Posted Jan 28, 2015
Pros: Its eclectic look & feel, very old world.
Cons: Accessing the venue from a taxi - you need to get in and out of the cab very quickly.
Location: Location was great close to two main stations with bus links to Waterloo Bridge and south bank plus Trafalgar Square
The hotel staff were absolutely brilliant and went totally out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Seriously recommend the two attached venues - Chiswell Street Dining Rooms and the Jugged Hare, both are vibrant venues especially on a Friday evening after work. Would seriously recommend The Montcalm Brewery Hotel.

Lovely weekend

Posted Jan 16, 2015
Pros: Everything
Location: Extremely close to Barbican centre
Great weekend, lovely room. The staff were extremely helpful, even though I left it till the day before they still managed to come up with a birthday cake and a room upgrade, which was unfrequented. We had a great meal in the Jugged Hare and here the staff were also great when we told them we had time limitation.

Nice comfortable hotel

Posted Dec 29, 2014
The hotel has comfortable rooms, decent amenities, the staff is nice and tries hard. One negative about staff was the weird numerous attempts to enter our room by ringing a "door bell", which took us a minute to understand what the chiming was, until we heard someone trying to unlock the door. This happened about 3 times in succession soon after our arrival. As a result, we had to put the "don't disturb" sign up the entire time we were there. I am sure the staff meant well, but it's a weird hotel policy. At a minimum, one would expect not to be disturbed every 10 minutes with a door bell in a 5-star hotel. The one time I did open the door, they asked if we want a massage. It is unclear what they wanted the other many times they attempted to enter our room, but it didn't seem to have been something specific to our room or important. Either way, I didn't appreciate this aspect of the hotel. The room was ok. Too small by US standards, but it was ok.

Excellent was slightly spoilt

Posted Dec 15, 2014 on Hotels.com
Service was very good from the moment we approached the front door. The room was packed with all the goodies you would expect in a 5* hotel, even slightly overcrowded at the tea making facility area and the wash hand basin area. The only downer for me was the noisy machinery in the courtyard through out the night, hence the mark down on the room comfort.

Excellent staff, disappointing rooms

Posted Dec 9, 2014
This is a lovely hotel in an interesting and quirky building. We enjoyed our stay on the whole. The welcome was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The let down was our room, we were pleased to be upgraded to a second floor Club room and although small, there was just enough space. The rooms are well appointed, nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The problem is the standard double bed, the single glazed window with the hotel bar in the courtyard below and the weirdly large bathroom with the bath at one end and the washbasin and toilet crammed into a tiny area behind the door. Very poorly planned. The noise below kept us awake until 1.30 am, I suspect the staff would have moved us , has we complained but no one wants to change rooms in the middle of the night. It's a nice hotel with a great staff but isn't 5 star by any means.
