“great quick stay”

FIrst time in LA was a good experience. This hotel was easy to find and close to almost everything. It was clean inside, although the surrounding area was a bit dirty. Not bad for it's price. I would definitely stay here again.

“Not impressed. Disappointed.”

The outside and lobby of the hotel were very inviting. The staff was pleasant, but not overly interested in our stay. Outside our room window there was garbage and trash strewn around. The bathroom sink was clogged. There was a big fly flying in the air around our faces all night. There were baby cockroaches running around the bathroom. Upon awakening and opening one of my bags, I noted the baby cockroaches had infested it as well. The room had an odor of stale smoke. We did not shower after all this. We did not come back for the second night stay even though we had prepaid for the room. This hotel came highly recommended to us and ended up a pure disappointment. Hopefully, staff can learn from this. Thank you for listening.

“bad bad”

so noisy , ben uncomfortable, rooms really old fashion old paper on wall .... will never recommend it! And impossible to get internet connection in my room.... Just one thing breakfast not too bad but no room to have a table... so no point to have things to eat...

“Affordable LA Hotel”

The Comfort Inn Los Angeles City Center was very comfortable and clean -- a nice touch is shutters on the windows. The check-in experience is great. And where can you get a free continental breakfast and $2/night parking in LA?! The only negatives are the limited breakfast area and the surrounding neighborhood. During the day it's fine, but I wouldn't walk around there at night. But if you're looking for an affordable alternative within a mile or so from the Convention Center/Staples Center, etc., this is a good one.

Area recommendations

LA Convention/Staples Center area is chock full of restaurants and things to do -- a must see is the Grammy Museum.

“Not on my return list.”

I made a last minute reservation at this hotel to see a Dodgers game on a Friday night. After exiting the freeway and driving to the hotel I was cautious of the neighborhood. It was not a location to walk around during the evening or the day. The room was comfortable although the bathroom door would not close easily. The location of this hotel is in an area I would not recommend to anyone. For that reason alone I would not stay at this hotel again.

“Adequate but poor location”

I picked this motel because it's inexpensive and because I thought it was within walking distance of the Convention Center. It is, but barely; an OK walk in good weather but a bear with a heavy load of papers and the like. There is fairly frequent bus service. The neighborhood is depressing. There are only two respectable-looking restaurants within a few blocks: a bakery that was closed in the evenings and a Little Ceasar pizza takeout. For anything better you must get downtown to the Convention Center or nearby. Their continental breakfast is minimal. When one or two tour buses were there, the "dining" rooom was mighty crowded; this happened several times during the 6 days I was there. For me, this was a mistake.

“Decent place and good value”

This turned out to be a real find - comfortable, clean, close to the city, and comparatively cheap. I stayed for a week through Memorial Day. The king bed was quite restful and the room was large enough to relax in though I basically just slept there. I asked for a room back from the street and it was generally quiet. Yes, there are sirens fairly often during the day and night, and an occasional police chopper at night, but hey it's a block from the fire station and a block from Wilshire Blvd., the main east-west corridor. No different than downtown Chicago where I work and sometimes stay in a hotel, or any other big city. If the noise is bothersome, I find ear plugs help tune it out. I was only awakened once in the night. The breakfast buffet was delightful with plenty to go around and continual refreshment, including fresh bagels and muffins. If you want something different, McD and Starbucks are just a block away on Wilshire at Union St. Food 4 Less grocery is in the same shopping plaza on the upper level at 6th St. if you want to keep food in the room fridge, but there's no microwave. All in all, I'd call it a heck of a deal. Don't be scared off by the locale; it's a working class family neighborhood with small shops and mercados, amigo, but no one's going to bother you on the street. Just don't hang out in MacArthur Park after dark with the homeless people, despite the mystique of Jimmy Webb's tune.

Area recommendations

For cultural interests downtown, I recommend the MOCA and Disney Concert Hall on Grand. For history buffs, the self-guided walking tours are informative. Santa Monica and Long Beach have active social outlets and shopping activity and Hollywood is pretty lively, too.

Getting around

Unlike most, I relied exclusively on public transportation. The Metro red line train station is 4 blocks away at MacArthur Park. Take it up to Hollywood or back downtown to Union Amtrak Station and switch to the Gold Line to go up to Pasadena. Transfer to the blue line from the red line at 7th Street Metro Center station and go down to Long Beach. The 720 Rapid bus traverses Wilshire Blvd and gets you to Beverly Hills/Rodeo Drive in about half an hour or to Santa Monica Pier and the beach in about an hour. Fare is $1.50 one way or buy a TAP card for one day or one calendar week to save.

“good place to stay if you just want to go to the parks”

This hotel is great if you want a cheap option. It is not fancy and the breakfast is not so good. The facilities are not the nicest. However, it is within 10 easy minutes of the monorail that takes you into disneyland and the staff are excellent. The low cost and excellent service make up for the plain room.

“Comfort Inn Los Angeles City Center”

This hotel is okay but I would rather recommend a hotel that is near the center of downtown if you do not have a car. The room is pretty big compared to other hotels and they have a small pool. It's about a 7 minute walk from the metro station. But I do not recommend anyone walking during the night, although the neighborhood seems very quiet. If you want to grab dinner or lunch, it's about 7 blocks away from the hotel unless you want mcdonalds, which is near the metro system.
