Place to hang your hat in a central location

Posted Oct 6, 2014
Pros: Location, free parking, friendly staff, complimentary breakfast,
Cons: Bathroom remodel
Location: Central to access Griffith Park, Hollywood Blvd. attractions and 10 minute ride to Sunset Blvd night life. Nowhere Bar across the street is a must!
Overall, our experience was pleasant and the hotel served our purpose of a place to sleep for two nights while we explored Hollywood for a weekend. It is a great hotel if you are looking for a place to hang your hat for a night or two. I would not recommend extended stays nor would I recommend it if part of your plans include spending substantial time in the room beyond sleeping/getting ready. You get what you pay for. Otherwise, the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. They also offer free parking (HUGE PLUS) and a complimentary breakfast.

The place is close to everything. However, if you are picky don't go to this hotel, is very dusty and the bathroom is kinda 3rd world country style

Floors were a bit dirty, but overall, in a good location and decent enough for the price.

Suited our needs

Posted Sep 4, 2014
Pros: Good security and pool
Cons: Reception. The lady on reception was a bit obtuse.
Location: Hop on Hop off buses to beaches etc. Chinese theatre, lots of shops,. Disney land is accessible by the Luxe bus. Pick up at Roosevelt Hotel. Good cafe
Reasonably central to the happenings of Hollywood Boulavade depends on how fast you can walk to Chinese theatre. It took us 30mins. Motel is basic and you get what you pay for. The free breakfast to us was fine it is different but an experience.

Not-so-safe location, noises and too pricey

Posted Aug 29, 2014
Pros: None
Cons: Sound proof needed for the rooms near the street.
Location: Nothing good
Noises. Lots of loud noises. The staff gave me the first room that is facing the street. I checked in at 4 pm. We needed a nap after a long drive. I couldn't sleep at all. Ever my husband who has poor hearing couldn't stay asleep because of the tires squeal, cars vroom, horn and siren sounded every 10-15 minutes. Am I being critical? No. There is a fire station across the street. I heard the siren four/five times in less than two hours. We both got up before 6 pm. We couldn't stand with the noises and decided to leave at 8 pm to avoid traffic. Then I used the bathroom, no bathtub in bathroom, worst of it the ceiling is unfinished, can't flush unless the toilet seat cover downed. I didn't ever want to touch the towels. So I packed and waited but the noise never ended. We rather hit back to the road and deal with the traffic instead. Guess how this ended? We saw three policies in front the motel while we were waiting to get back on the road. All amenities listed provided but they are not worth for what I paid. Good luck.

Remember the saying. .."You get what you pay for". This is an older hotel and it shows. That said, it is in great shape. The staff is phenomenal and the included hot breakfast two doors down is at a great 'hole in the wall' restaurant "House of Tacos". The location is all you could ask for, hence the price. We look forward to staying here again.

Had my doubts, but it was good

I had tickets to the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson so we took a mini roadtrip to LA (I live in the San Francisco Bay Area). We got there a little early, so we couldn't check in yet. Plus, they were full. The staff was very friendly. Our room looked a but outdated, but we were only there for a night. We didn't need anything super fancy. Everything was fine. The parking though....We got back from dinner and I guess there's a space for everyone, except we were driving a van. Some person didn't park very well, so we couldn't fit. The parking lot is small! We had to park down the street. The breakfast was very yummy! I had coffee, waffles, and scrambled eggs. They had toast with butter, sausage, other types of meat, rice, and beans. The breakfast was my favorite part. I would stay here again.

OK for the price

Pros: The location in Hollywood was very convenient. The parking lot was convenient as well, although at night it filled up quickly.
Cons: Our room desperately needed a new paint job as well as some decorations. The mattress needed replacing as well.
Location: Walking distance from the Walk of Fame and Grauman's Chinese Theater. Convenient to all other LA/Hollywood attractions.
As soon as we arrived at the Downtowner in LA (a stop on our road trip down the coast) I was disappointed by the condition of the facilities. The exterior, including the pool, as well as the lobby seemed shabby and unattended to. The woman at the reception desk seemed friendly enough, however she neglected to tell us that Hollywood Blvd would be closed for most of the next day for several blocks surrounding our hotel for a parade. Luckily, we left for the day before the parade started, but when we returned to the hotel we couldn't get close to it and had to park about half a mile away. Several guests at the hotel were stuck there with their cars until the parade ended. It seems the front desk neglected to tell most, if not all, of their guests. I felt that this was bad business practice and disrupted many people's vacation plans. Otherwise, the hotel room was minimally decorated and kept to only the basic level of cleanliness and comfort. The mattress was definitely cheap and the air conditioner very noisy. The bathroom was small and provided no counter space. There was parking available but it tended to fill up at night. I'm not sure if there were enough spots for all guests. We were on a tight budget and this hotel was a great location, but I would not recommend this hotel.
