Pros: I only stayed two nights, but I was always greeted by name whenever entering the lobby.
Location: Very convenient to Paramount Studios which is down the street on Melrose.
Not luxurious, but very comfortable, clean and a good value.

The free parking is the best thing about the hotel

Posted Aug 16, 2014
Pros: The parking.
Cons: Figure out how to get a stopper for those tubs. Get the rooms serviced earlier. Have instructions in the room on how to operate the TV.
Location: It's not far from things you want to see around Hollywood. However, the neighborhood itself is not a pretty place to stroll in.
Room is small, retro atmosphere, falls short in what it offers. The sink is too tiny to wash a blouse in. The bathtub has no stopper (this seems a matter of policy; the clerk at the desk said "we don't have those," as if it were somehow exotic). You can be gone all day, get back late afternoon, and find they still haven't done your room. You can't just turn on the TV, you need training from staff to get it to operate. The neighborhood looks a bit seedy. Great, convenient free parking, though.

Not worth the price

Posted Aug 1, 2014
The best thing about this hotel is it looks good from the outside. The rooms are small. We were given a room on the 2nd floor adjacent to a stairwell. The bathroom was very small. There was only 10" between the front of the toilet and the bathtub. I am 5'6" and could barely fit in that small space. Anyone taller would have to dangle their feet in the tub. The staff was helpful and friendly for the most part until it was time to check out. Then the person disappeared to get breakfast. The WiFi did not work in the room, I had to go outside in the hallway under the router to connect my devices. All in all not a good experience and definitely not worth the Expedia price. Very very disappointing.

Just a place to sleep.

There's a little bit of charm to it, but not enough to override it's lack of comfort. It's location is on a pretty busy street with an abundance of noise 24/7. Rooms were clean but not comfy. Beds and pillows were very stiff. The soap was so dry it felt like glue. If you bring your own pillow, soap and earplugs, your experience here would probably be much better than mine was.

Non chain hotel

Charming hotel, built in 1927, filled with old Hollywood photos. Nothing fancy, just the basics, yet clean, comfortable and affordable.

This is a well-kept old hotel with friendly and efficient staff. The parking lot is fenced and clean. The hotel was immaculately clean. The bathroom is very small, so a very large person would probably not be comfortable in there. It is very convenient to many things in LA. It is down the street from Paramount Studios. We were pleased with our stay there.

Historic hotel

Location: Paramount studios, famous walk of fame, Pantage theater, Chinese theater, plenty of restaurants and dining.
This hotel is not located in the best area in Hollywood but it is a central location, only about 10 dollar cab ride to Hollywood and Vine, close to highway and free parking. The hotel was built in the 1930s and has kept the old Hollywood hotel feel. If you are looking for pillow top beds, huge bathtubs and all the amenities of a W Hotel, you will not find that here. If you want to have a unique, great experience in a hotel that has been there since the beginning of Hollywood then this is your place. It was exactly what I had wanted and hoped for.

A Classic Hollywood Hotel that could be great

Posted Jun 24, 2014
Pros: It was located near where we were visiting.
Cons: The rooms lack ambiance. There's nothing luxurious about them, not even carpeted.
Location: It's near Paramount Studios.
The lobby was really fun old time Hollywood d├ęcor. The elevator is tiny, two people and one suitcase, or four friends fit in it. Interesting pictures of old Hollywood scenes and actors and actresses line the halls. The room had laminate flooring.no carpeting. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, we both had back aches. The pillows were old, hard and smelled funny. The person at the desk said there was no other pillows available, nothing extra. The windows opened to the street and there was a lot of traffic noise. The air conditioner didn't really cool the room. The over head fan was off balance. One bedside table, one straight back desk chair and a table. The hotel could be great, but right now it's pretty Spartan.
