Freindly helpful staff

All the staff in the were helpful and eager to assist. The hotel has a great view over the marina, with a short walk to some nice restaurants and a pleasant ride to the bech.

Decent hotel if you're on a budget

Posted Aug 22, 2013
Pros: I liked the location and views
Cons: It ha an old hotel/motel smell and feel. The décor is definitely dated.
Location: 26 Beach Café is right around that area...great place to eat. Nearby In and Out burger also.
I stayed there for a weekend with my sisters in early August 2013. The toilets oddly flushed, the curtains don't close all the way, the cleaning staff is pretty annoying ( they knocked three times within an hour in the morning although the do not disturb sign was on doorknob. The pool was NOT heated. I stepped in the pool and stepped right out after trying to "warm myself up" after 15 minutes. I only slept at the hotel. Didn't check out the bar or restaurant nearby, none of that. For the price I paid it was decent. OMG I forgot to mention the shower is HORRID! The water gets extremely hot then cold. I had to do some crazy spider man moves to avoid that.

Great location, hotel in need of renovation

Location is excellent, very quiet and surrounded by water. Hotel is not very well maintained, though everything was in working order.

Nice hotel, great location, wrong timing to stay..

Posted Aug 18, 2013
The location is a dream of many hotels. We spent there many memorable visits in the good old times. We were one of the last visitors, before the hotel closed for a one-year renovations. Everything is worn out and filthy. We had to call many times the custodian service to vacuum the stained carpets, mop the balcony, and cover up with sheets the stained armchairs. We reserved a non-smoking room, and were placed in a smoking room. The Internet is like in the Caribbeans, slow and spotty. The only reason we decided to continue the stay, because the bed was snow white clean and comfortable, and the air is fresh and crisp. During the day we traveled a lot around So. California. I hope, that the hotel will be updated with state-of-the art facilities and well trained personnel. if that will happen, we will definitely come back. The rates, for what we received in return, are very high. Another great feature: free self parking.

The hotel staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The hotel itself is showing signs of age and could use some TLC but I found it charming anyway. Close to everything and easy access. I would definitely stay there again.

Overall we were satisfied with our stay. The air conditioner in the room needed a little more ease of use. Bell service would have been nice. Location and cleanliness a plus.

The bar and gift shop were shutting down when we went. I have had 5 star hotels for cheaper than I paid for what seemed like a 2star hotel.

Closed down

Posted Aug 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel closed down at 12 noon on my day of departure and the preparations were in full swing during my stay, so there were not the hotel services that used to be there and that I consider normal at a hotel in this price category. As an example, I could not leave my suitcase at the hotel between check-out (11 am) and the time (3.30 pm) I was picked up for the airport, so I had to sit with my luggage and could not move around as I had planned. I walked to the visitors bureau (approx. 0.5 miles) and an employee there arranged that I could go back to the hotel with the luggage for two hours. So I walked back with all the luggage. At the hotel, it was made clear to me that if I returned after 2 pm, the door would be closed, so I came back in time. However, there continued to be people working in the hotel reception area the following two hours while I sat in front of the hotel and waited to be picked up, so it was simply a question of lack of service. Also, the restaurant was in a closing mood when I arrived and closed down on the morning of my departure. I would have liked to know in advance that the hotel would not operate as normal. The price was too high for the service provided.

Major reno starting

Posted Aug 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
As everyone has pointed out, the Marina Del Rey Hotel is in need of a major face-lift. We knew that going in so we were able to enjoy the welcoming and helpful staff, the warm and open layout of the hotel, and the perfect location. They've closed now and are scheduled to open again early next summer. I will for sure check it out next time we're in the LA area. I hope they keep some of the charm of this hotel while updating where necessary.
