Lovely experience

Pros: comfortable bed with great pillows; fabulous old bar.
Cons: amenities, i.e. full length mirror, free WiFi
Location: close to Disney Hall, excellent restaurants
Just what we wanted for a single romantic night in downtown LA before going to a Disney Hall concert. perfectly located, historical ambience, like a step back in time.

The hotel staff were not very enthusiastic, let's put it this way. The gym was neat, but very scary after 10 pm, which is when the swimming pool closes and many lights are shut. Rooms are quite nice, but you have to understand that it is an old hotel. The Lobby floor is full of charms.

Best Value in LA

Amazing historic building and great location if you are looking to stay in downtown LA. It would be impossible for someone to recreate this building today. It would be too expensive. The staff went out of their way for us, from the valets to the maid service. We were pleasantly surprised at how large our room was, which was nicely decorated and which had a hi def TV, and updated fixtures in the bathroom. Beautiful woodwork too. From the box and crown moulding to the window shutters. Super clean throughout. And the restaurant was great too. Can't say enough good things. Downtown LA has some homeless which is not what you want on vacation but it is no more an issue than in any other major city, including San Fran (we see the same issue in the Fishermans Wharf area and Haight Ashbury). Nonetheless we felt totally safe walking to the great local restaurants and the Staple Center. Thanks Biltmore!

Vergane glorie

Very central to downtown LA.

Pros: The character of the lobby and wings. It is a classic hotel indee. 92 years old.
Cons: As explained, the room was small and very old for three people. I'm sure many rooms have been upgraded, but we certainly were not in one of them.
Location: Very central and close to parks, many eating areas and we felt safe in the streets.
We were just a little disappointed with the small room for three people. Nancy the receptionist was friendly and informative, but we felt we were given 2nd or 3rd class accommodation in what is a very large hotel.
