Diamond in the Rough

Pros: Price, location, and quality of the room
Cons: It's older, has no amenities like wifi, and the water takes some time to get hot if you're on the third floor.
Location: Next to the beach and Santa Monica pier.
The hotel is obviously a conversion from an older apartment complex. If one is looking for the standard hotel fare, with valet, lobby, gift shop, concierge, etc, they won't find it here. However, the hotel is very close to the beach, the pier, restaurants, and the Santa Monica promenade. The rooms are spacious with kitchens, separate bedrooms, large living room with flat screen tv, plenty of closet space and nice bathroom. And you can't beat the price. Nothing in the area compares. To say that I was pleasantly pleased would be an understatement. In fact, this hotel will be my first choice any time I travel to LA, especially if my stay will be more than a couple of days. I highly recommend it to everyone, regardless of whether it's family, a couple, or business traveler.

Room with a view

The location was great with an excellent ocean view! The bed was comfortable. A word of caution for anyone with kids or plans to go to sleep before 2 am as it is above a restaurant that has live music or DJ.

SANTA MONICA LOFTS

Posted Oct 17, 2011
These apartments were a third of the price of hotels in the immediate area. "Reception" is a mobile phone number sandblasted onto the front door, and isn't always answered straight away. Once you make contact, the owner is really very helpful and arranged free secure parking for us right over the road. The Loft is Bohemian rather than luxurious, but as a frequent business traveler, I welcomed something different! The rooms are quirkily furnished, with lots of room, sofa and a kitchenette as well as a bathroom that has seen better days (but clean). The location is perfect, Santa Monica waterfront as close to the Santa Monica pier as you can get, and the shopping malls, pubs, liquor stores or restaurants are right there. The hotel is conveniently located where the Interstate 10 hits the Santa Monica beachfront, and is great for someone who wants to travel to Universal, the Getty Museum or Disneyland. Ideal for a couple or family who want to partly self cater, if you don't want to use the takeaways or great pizza parlor right downstairs! The airconditioning is not great, and I would not want to stay during the high Summer heat. I enjoyed my stay there,

No room service but excellent location in Santa Monica.

Ocean Luxury is not known by local residents and taxi drivers, but it exists! It is very well located (in front of the beach and very close to the comercial streets, like the nice Third Street Promenade). Be aware of absence of room service (no elevator and no room service), although the rooms are clean and confortable. Due to the price (when comparing to other hotels), it has a good cost x benefit relation.

For the party goers

I don't recommend this place for families or couples looking for a quiet weekend. the first floor is a popular restaurant/bar and stays busy and loud til 2:30 am on weekends. this is a great place for anyone who is use to staying in a hostel. the room was a bit run down but had a great location and a great view. there is an underground garage across the street. i never actually saw the management. everything was handled via internet, phone calls, and text messages. the other guests were all young, college punks stinking up the halls with their "natural" smoking habits.

Not a place to stay

This is not an hotel actually those are little studios poorly maintained and noisy. The location is good but the place is really dirty. It smells musty and I think that one of the cheapest motels in the neighbourhood would be better than this. The owner should really do something to improve the condition of the place.
