Beautiful, old hotel in the center of StudioCity.Posted Mar 4, 2014
Convenient to shopping and dining and facilities are 1st rate. Staff failed to make up room on next to last day was only drawback.

This is not the hotel that we were looking forPosted Feb 27, 2014
Location: near universal studios - well sort of
Though this hotel rated a 3.8 and was advertised as a three star hotel, it was far closer to a 1.5 or 2. The place was very run down - paint chipped in elevators and in hallways. The hallways also smelled musty. The room was pretty bare, and the closet (not even a door - but a curtain, was 2/3 taken up by what looked to be a hastily built in wooden set of drawers. Look more like a dorm room. THe "desk" as it were, was just a piece of wood, attached to the wall. All of this for $160 dollars a night, plus $14 for parking in a mostly empty parking lot that was in disrepair. The carpets looked dirty, the cafe was closed, the staff was inattentive. Not likely to stay here again.

Great hotelPosted Feb 27, 2014
Pros: Really nice hotel in a great location. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Cons: Better wifi
Location: Location is great. Ralph's supermarket across the road, the kings head pub just down the road 200 yards is well worth visiting. Taxi to Hollywood blvd
My 6th stay here. Always a good experience. The neighbor orthodox is good and safe. Local amenities excellent. Great location and easy to get anywhere in la area from here.

Still Coming TogetherPosted Feb 26, 2014
This is a classic building in a convenient location. I was so glad to find out that they were renovating it to a swanky pool resort. The concept didn't quite make it through development though. The sorbet colors of the new theme clash with the legacy antlers. It's a bit disconcerting--I was unsure whether to wear my Brazilian trunks or waders to the pool. The rooms have been nicely renovated--sleek furnishings, simulated wood flooring (hotels with carpet are disgusting), and plush bedding. Even a brief glance, however, revealed the cheap materials and poor workmanship. The front desk staff seemed to be trying hard, but lacked direction. Maintenance seemed to be without guidance too. One guy used the world's loudest leaf blower in the confined, densely peopled pool area for over hour before someone--not sure if it was a guest or management--asked him to stop.

Convenient location close to lots of stuffPosted Feb 24, 2014
Pros: The rate was fantastic room was very clean and housekeeping did a nice job.
Cons: The sound from the next room was a little loud at times
Location: close to restaurants and shopping, Universal Studios
The room was very clean and comfortable. While it is obvious they are currently undergoing a major renovation, things were clean and the staff was very helpful. I will definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel. Questionable decor?Posted Feb 19, 2014
Stayed there for two nights. Beautiful pool area, especially at night! Questionable decor indoors though. The lobby gave me the "sportsman lodge" feel with animals on the wall but the rest of the hotel was nothing like it. Also my room didnt have a fridge which kind of surprised me.Previous comments were complaining about the construction but this didn't bother me at all. Another plus is the shuttle to universal studios!

Nice hotel, reasonable pricePosted Feb 15, 2014
Pros: The staff was friendly and the hotel is kept clean.
Cons: The staff when checking in could tell the customer more about the ammenities and services of the hotel. We found out about services by asking around.
Location: The location is on a main street with shops and services nearby. The freeway is very close as well.
This hotel has been refurbished. They did an excellent job. Every area in the hotel is kept clean. They have staff poolside to give towels or replace them on the lounge chair when someone leaves. The restaurant is being refurbished now but they did have room service. The price was fair, the food was good and the service was quick. I would stay here again.

Sportsmens Lodge.Posted Feb 13, 2014
Cons: It will be wonderful when it is done.
Location: Great location for the Valley.
Not at all lodgey. Very contemporary California. Just remodeled. In fact first night there was the faint smell of paint. The staff were very friendly and good. Even the guests were friendly. (A group traveling with Dolly Parton was staying there.) Unfortunately, the restaurant was under remodel. Room service was fast, good, and not especially expensive. Good experience.
