Zen!!Posted May 30, 2013
Pros: Continental breakfast
Cons: Wish they wouldn't charge for the in room coffee.
Location: It was walking distance to everything. Beach is about 6-8 blocks away
Great hotel. High end quality. Continental breakfast was fresh. Coffee was great. Definitely staying here next time!

We loved our stay herePosted Dec 29, 2012
Pros: Very stylish and clean.
Cons: The breakfast scene needed more accommodation; there weren't enough tables.
Location: Good location, but not central. We didn't mind the walk down to the waterfront.
This is a very good, stylish hotel, if a bit worn at the edges. The television was a bit old, but we didn't come to watch television, and the exhaust system didn't work so well in the bathroom, but overall we loved our stay of 2 nights here, and wouldn't hesitate to come again. One item that could be improved upon was the breakfast arrangement, where there aren't enough tables to accommodate the crowd. The breakfast itself was very good, and popular. The coffee was well above average for an American hotel.

Charming business travel optionPosted Dec 27, 2012
Pros: local shuttle, ambiance, ease
Cons: view from the room
Location: central to shopping and dining - made all the easier w/ the local shuttle
The Ambrose has a lovely character and simple amenities that make staying there practical and enjoyable at the same time. Wifi is free and reliable, bathrooms are stocked w/ Aveda product, lighting in the rooms is flexible easily controlled (I know that might seem a strange kudos to give, but I've been in rooms where there are three different switches in different corners to light the room), there are outlets at the desk (again, not always true), and tasty options at the honor bar in the room. The winning factor for me as a business traveler is their local shuttle service - while the hours could be longer, it is quite useful for me to get to client sites in Santa Monica without dealing with cabs. Free parking is also a plus if I have clients out of town. The hotel is also walking distance from several good dining options.

Calm in a busy cityPosted Nov 15, 2012
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful with information about the area.
Cons: Room was a little musty - could use an air freshener.
Location: In a suburban area with more calm and charm than being on the Santa Monica strip (where I have previously stayed).
Great location, very pleasant surroundings, easy access to local shops and restaurants. For exercise enthusiasts the coast is a brisk 20 minute walk and the free car drop-off and pick-up is an added benefit. The hotel has a spa-like charm with the garden and water feature in front.

environmentally friendly and true to itPosted Nov 14, 2012
Location: great location for distance to the Pier and 3rd st. Promenade
I really liked the fact that the housekeepers did not take your towels when you hung them up to reuse them. Most places that have the sign for reusing towels is usually not followed thru with. Hotel was very quiet which was nice. The bathroom had its own recycle bin which was nice to see, more hotels should consider this.

It's a keeperPosted Oct 22, 2012
Pros: ambience, decor and breakfast
Cons: The only thing I noticed was the TV was an older model, not a flat screen and no HD, but it was definitely adequate.
Location: Central to everything in Santa Monica, just perfect.
This hotel was fabulous. Great location with underground parking. Beautiful decor and very clean, with very comfortable beds. Wonderful cold breakfast buffet offered in beautiful setting; Starbucks coffee, fresh orange juice, high quality pastries, fresh fruit, cold cereals, and yogurt. We'll definitely stay here again. It's a keeper in our hotel file.

Excellent ValuePosted Sep 11, 2012
Friendly staff, plenty of parking, good clean and well maintained. A few blocks from the coast and town centre but is walkable and safe and in any case the hotel will shuttle you as often as required with an informal, free and friendly service which makes it minutes from everywhere in santa monica.
