beautiful, but it's a construction zone!!🚧🚧

Posted Jul 4, 2015
The resort was going through a major expansion construction during our stay.. The hotel is nice on the beach but is not swimable beach front. We had to go to another location away from Solmar to swim on the beach.. The food was delicious, rooms were clean, staff was nice.. The only shortfalls were the construction 🚧🚧🚧happening around the resort. We got a beach cabana massage at 9 am and 15 minutes into the massage, jackhammers, tractors, and bulldozers 🚜🚜🚜started😤😡..eating breakfast and lunch with an ocean view was obscured with workmen hailing debris in barrels, large machinery, and mounds of rocks and sand😩😣...I assume because of the construction, plumbing was an issue as well😷🚽🛁water backing up and not flushing properly.... I wish we were informed of the construction happening before booking.. This type of information is important to guests..

Most relaxing vacation ever!

Posted Jul 1, 2015
I booked this vacation for my 23 year old daughter and myself to just relax and get away. Yes there is construction and it's right on the property but it did not bug us at all! We loved our trip. We got to know all the bar staff and the waiters. Everyone was so nice! Yes it is all inclusive but I would bring a stack of singles and tip even if it is a dollar. It does not add up to much and the people are so nice! Go! You will love it. We did and plan to go back next year. Really close to the marina and town. You can walk to Cabo Wabo or take a taxi for $8 each way.

Not a nice hotel close to anything

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Heavy construction 7 days a week/12 hrs a day, food is poor at best and no variety, rooms very outdated and not clean. Not central to anything, its a good 10 minute taxi ride. Never again..

Dear Customer; Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others. I offer you an apology due to the inconvenience you manifest. Regarding our location, we are just steps away from downtown Cabo in a secluded beach with spectacular view from the Pacific Ocean, I regret that this was not convenient for you. Thank you for your visit.

Quiet All-Inclusive

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Cons: Don't make people sign for a check if they are all-inclusive.
This is a smaller resort. Quieter then most. Not many activities, so if you're looking for that, I wouldn't stay here. The resort is clean and food is great. I don't like that we did the all-inclusive, but we had to keep a tab and sign to close it out. If it is all-inclusive then don't bother us with a bill. The staff is pretty friendly, but do not go out of their way to serve you (at the swim up bar mainly). We went to the DR a year ago and they are all about service there. Over all it is a nice place, but they do bug you at check in to do a timeshare tour at the new Grand Solmar. We didn't do it, but they offer free things if you take the tour.

Just OK

Posted Jun 22, 2015
Pros: Friendly staff, pool bar, location.
Cons: Needs room renovation!
While my time in Cabo was great, the hotel experience was a bit sub par. Having stayed at Playa Grande next door last year, I knew my expectations were going to be lower. Something about the rooms is kind of grimy to me. Maybe it's the excessive tiles all over the ground? The bathroom is very MEH. I guess it's an older hotel so they can kind of get away with it. Location is great, however. Few steps to the beach and a decent walk to downtown and the marina. Since Solmar is Playa's sister hotel, you get to use all of their awesome pools well. Food is again, just OK. Nothing special. I'd like to think the taste is enhanced because it's free. Drinks are also OK. I too thought it was weird to sign a "bill" every time I ordered food and drinks. It doesn't charge you, but still. I felt very obligated to tip for everything. Speaking of which, I found that when I didn't tip, my drinks would barely taste like alcohol! The staff is fine; you'll run into really nice ones and ones that will not give you attention if you don't tip. Didn't really notice the construction (sound wise). Loved the pool bar. Pool is supposed to close at 10 but they will shut it down earlier.

Nice room, good food, horrible noise, power outage

Posted Jun 19, 2015
Pros: The food and service
Cons: power generator at least
Location: boating, fishing, water sport
Hotel under construction, very noisy and messy, 2 days power outage, why can't they provide back up generator? Staff very helpful, polite, very good food and service

Already planning the next visit

Posted Jun 11, 2015
Friendly, friendly staff took care of all our needs. Hotel situated right on beach. A few minutes by foot to the marina and central CSL. Of note: this beach sin't suited for swimming between the waves and rip tide. Other beaches, like Medano, were easy to get to though via water taxi.
