“The Mercure Duisburg was a good choice.”
This was a very nice hotel and everything the description suggested it would be. The breakfast buffet was particularly great, with a wide range of American and European breakfast choices. Unlike most American business hotels, wifi is not free here or in any other hotel we stayed in during our trip to Belgium and Germany in March, 2011. This can really raise the cost of your stay if you need to stay connected back home for work. The location was great, with a short walk to the main shopping street of Duisburg, which is now pedestrian only. On Saturday morning, there was a farmer's market. The casino next door to the hotel is also part of an indoor shopping area that has coffee shops, restaurants, fast-food, and other handy options. I would be happy if the hotel turned down the heat, however; we had to open the windows and let the street noise in to sleep comfortably.
