Nice hotel- but the price!

Posted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: Rooms are well appointed and big and the free shuttle to the nearby Bellas shopping
Cons: Half the price and stop gouging on room service, bar and restaurants
Location: Just a pretty ordinary shopping mall
The hotel is very nice, but I just cannot really get enthused about a hotel that in the rest of the world is worth about $200-$250 a night charging $450. Then further gouging $40 for a burger, $6-7 for small draft beer, $12-15 for a bottom shelf whiskey (you can buy the bottle for less locally), and $100 for a hotel lobby buffet dinner!

Three star hotel with five star price

Posted Mar 17, 2014 on Hotels.com
I expected a lot more for five stars. The gym wasn't open, the WIFI was spotty, the food was good but overpriced, the service from staff was OK but i shouldn't have to ask 3 times for more toilet paper! I think hotels in the area are hard to come by they made some effort to make it a five star but it is lacking in many areas.

No wifi internet in the rooms and no taxi service

Posted Jul 4, 2013
Pros: the restaurants
Cons: Wifi in the rooms
If you try to get a taxi to go anywhere just forget. It doesn't work. You have to hire a car or a driver in advance. Internet access at the rooms is unbelievable for a business hotel.

Rather stay at Sana or Baia

Posted Apr 20, 2013
Safe not working. Door not locking. Carpet with dark marks. ATM's did not work until the last day. Gym close for reconstruction. Pool only opens from 10:00 to 18:00 which for a normal working person means it is unusable. Asked for a double bed got 2 singles... all in all quite disappointing.

An imposter of a 4 star hotel. Enjoy you isolation

Posted Oct 17, 2012
Location: Middle of Siberia, while everything is under construction. Like on an island.
With 3 days notice they couldnt arrange an airport pick up for me. On my return, they couldn't find a taxi to pick me up to bring me back to the airport before a 730am pick up. They only had one option for me, to be picked up at 5am for my 1030a flight, for 3 times as much as it cost me to get to the hotel! Apparently there is some issue with the manager and the local taxi companies. Figure it out! The only restaurant open on the island hotel called Talatona is a very sad buffet. Food has been sitting out for hours and has a crust or a film on it. I picked my way through a 29 dollar club sandwich at the bar. Chewy chicken and membrane filled bacon. The workers are sweet and try very hard. The hotel just doesn't have the goods to charge the fortune that they do. The wifi in the lobby was very fast and solid. No luck in the rooms.

Good, but disappointing

Posted May 24, 2011
I just came back from Luanda on a 4 days business trip. Prior to the travel, I spent hours researching on the internet about hotels in Luanda and the most common names were Talatona, Tropico another one I can't remember the name right now. Basically I'd chosen Talatona because here in Expedia it is considered good, although many people showed some concern. And I can't agree more. The Hotel facilities is very good and the people are very friendly. Room is clean and confortable, so really not much to complain about physical disposition. Now, problems? Ok, 1st) TOO FAR FROM CITY CENTER, where all the business are; 2nd) NO WI-FI INTERNET, excuse me, but this is a 5 star hotels, so no more comments on this; 3rd) INTERNET CONNECTION (WIRED) SHALL BE PAID US$25.00/DAY, and don't think it is a good connection, it is REALLY SLOW. In the end, the stay, with internet, end up being US$500.00/night, not considering daily transport much needed to the city center. Now that I know the city a little bit, if you're going to Luanda for business, look for Tropico and Avalade Hotels. They look good (both 4*) in the outside and are very well positioned. You can even walk through those (daily) extremelly congestioned street, so you will save on your transport budget. Talatona is the most expensive Hotel in the city, but you certainly have other good options in a much more convinient location.

too far away to city center

Posted Oct 27, 2010
Hotel itself is so nice and I think it's the best hotel in Luanda. But, location is so far away to city center, it took about two hours in morning to central business district. It's too bad for business.

Dear Guest, The hotel is located about 18 Km from the city center. Unfortunately, the traffic in Luanda remains a issue to be solved. The complementarity of services that the hotel offers aims to be an escape from the city movement and provide the necessary rest. Thanking your review, we hope to see you again in a near future. Thank you, Hotel Management
