“Great Staff”

Game weekend, good hotel for the cost. Staff very helpful and friendly.

“Not impressed, would not stay here again”

The hotel lobby is the best part of this hotel. It was clean and looked freshly painted. When we got to the room; however, it looked tacky. What it needed was a fresh coat of paint, a fumigation and repairs to doors. The room had been painted to cover spots, there were holes and spots where the paint had pealed off the walls; the door handle to the bathroom was loose and needed repairs; and you could tell that we were in a smoking room because of the smell. Breakfast the next morning was served, but the only thing that was edible was the waffles, bagels, muffins and bread. The eggs smelled of preservatives and the gravy was lumpy and looked like cement. Overall, I would not stay in this hotel again unless there were sugnificant changes.

Horrible. Bad location. Carpet was very dirty. Bathroom floor was sticky. Bedding was very worn. Room had a bad smell. Neighboring rooms were eating a foul food that smelled.

“Close it up!”

When we arrived the manager kept trying to "upgrade us" but he never told us why. I explained I only wanted what we had paid for and no extras or extra charges. He placed us in the back room? I did not understand what that meant at the time. We later found out the back rooms are for locals. In other words the people that frequent the hotel that are not savory clientel or less than upscale. The room was filthy, the floor smells like urine. I walked barefoot to the bathroom and then had to go to walmart to buy alcohol because they would not stop itching. We complained on Sunday and we changed to a clean room and that is when the explanation came about from a lady maanger that the back rooms are not for the :better: customers. What an awful place !

A mix-up in the reservations were made up to be a better room. Service was great with the breakfast bar really good. It was more than cereal, fruit, rolls. The mangement was courtesy with quick response to our need. The location was easy for coming and going to other activities. Overall a great experience

“Lubbock - Howard Johnson”

I paid for a non-smoking room through Expedia, as my receipt said, and they had me reserved in a smoking room. So all my clothes stunk, and the hotel was a hole for the price paid. Absolute disappointment w/both Expedia and Howard Johnson. Will never use either again. On your receipt, where it asks smoking / non smoking...it said "Non Smoking"...but the room itself was listed as smoking. Total disappointment.

“Average...Not Bad, Just Average”

I grew-up in Lubbock but now live in Virginia. I stayed at this hotel while I was in town for my high-school reunion. I was already aware of where the hotel was located and had a good idea of what I was getting into invoving the neighborhood. The immediate surrounding area is fine, but head about 5 - 10 blocks North and BOOM...a seedier part of the town. My main issue was with the staff. One particular member to be exact. I don't know his name, but as I came in one night to ask for a pen (no, there was no pen ANYWHERE in my room), you would think I just asked him to stab his mother. Other than that, my room was properly furnished, everything was in working order, and ultimately satisfying. Nothing to blow my socks off, but still good.
