Nice old hotel in beautiful lucca

Posted May 12, 2015
Our room looked nothing like that picture, but for us the biggest detractor was the lack of shower with the silliest bathtub around. Also no air conditioning, so with the windows open it is very, very noisy all night.

Nice small hotel in quiet area

Posted May 10, 2015
I loved the hotel! It was within the wall but close to it for easy access. The furnishings were charming and I loved the dining room and breakfast. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful and the owner gave me an Italian lesson every morning. If you like a small, family owned hotel then this fits the bill.

Wonderful hotel in the heart of Lucca

Posted May 7, 2015
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Palazzo Alexander Hotel. The staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful. The hotel had a lift, which was an essential for a member of our party who had difficulty walking. Location was perfect for access to all the shops and the city walls. Would highly recommend.

A hotel with character

Posted May 2, 2015
Pros: The owner himself was a continual but unobtrusive presence; great location; nice breakfast; character!
Cons: What? No CNN on the TV :-) ?
Location: Inside the walls of Lucca, easy walk to anywhere.
Good directions on the website brought us right to the hotel; the owner's son ran the reception desk and took care of our car himself; smallish room with a chandelier! In a room named for one of Puccini's operas. The place oozes character! Owner's son gave us a great recommendation for dinner and made the reservation himself (he had to set himself a reminder for 2 hours).

Friendly

The staff is nice, friendly and helpful. The hotel is different, our room was named La Traviata and every thing was like ancient times but it works. The city is interesting and beautiful. Summary: it was a pleasure to visit Lucca and this hotel

In heart of the old city. Terrific Staff & Hotel.

Posted Feb 4, 2015
Pros: Staff, Family feeling (but professional), location and breakfast bar.
Location: In the heart of the old city -- everything is available in short walk.
From the moment we pulled up in front the welcome was warm, high service and family run. Hotel has charm of old Italy and conveniences of today (internet/wifi, TV, in room phone). Staff always available (24/x7) and super helpful.

Excellent Hotel

Posted Jan 27, 2015
We arrived 2 hours early but our room was ready and were taken straight up. The room itself was gorgeous, really authentic and old looking but spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable and the mini bar was stocked with treats at a very reasonable price. The hotel is inside the walls and is right in the heart of the town. All the restaurants were only 5-10 mins walk away with some really nice Cafe/Bars around too. We took a train to Florence on 1 day and the train was only 14 Euro's and it took 1 hr 20 mins to get there. The bus to and from the Airport is only 3 Euro's each way and the hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the bus station of Lucca. We made the mistake of getting a cab from the airport to the hotel when we arrived and it cost us 75 Euro which is incredibly expensive being only a 15 minute journey. We really enjoyed our stay and the owners of the hotel speak English and are extremely helpful with recommendations etc.. I'm gluten Free and told them before hand in case it was a problem but was presented with a huge basket of gluten free treats and bread for breakfast. The restaurants are also really accommodating for Gluten Free, they completely understand and have lots to eat. We will be coming back to Lucca in the summer as we loved it so much. :-)

Fabuloso !!!

I am in Love with this hotel!!! I plan to return soon. If you want a home away from home, this IS IT...So hospitable & welcoming. Great breakfast & rooms are of course old, but they are large and decor is classic Italian. Mario & Alexander will assist with your every need. Close to restaurants & all attractions. Look no further for a cosy stay.

The Best! Ultimo! Grazie molto Signore Mario!!

Posted Jan 11, 2015
Pros: Everything. Staff, rooms, food, advice on dinning......
Cons: Add hours to the days spent at this hotel.
Location: Near great trattorias.Near the wall which I walked before dinner every night. The town is small enough to see all the wonderful sights on foot.
We stayed in Lucca for the first time after a visit years ago where we walked the outer wall. It was love at first sight. We decided to add Lucca to our list f Italian cities where we have spent time to learn the nature of the culture. We selected this hotel based upon a special deal they were running on Expedia. This is not a modern chic hotel. Rather a warm cozy friendly and charming abode. The staff, Mario, Gabrielle and Allesandro go out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay, The rooms are large and rustic. The bathrooms are modernized and clean, The breakfast fantastic, I never had to ask Mario for double shots in my cappuccino! He always remembered. I'm not acake person, but every morning there were two typical local cakes hot out of the oven. I do love prosciutto with cheese and eggs for breakfast and there was all I could want every morning. The cornetti were wonderful and so were the fresh foccia slices. Last year were loved Lucca and this hotel so much that we cancelled two days in Rome and added two more nights in Lucca. This year we stayed for four nights. Again a sheer delight. It was hard to say goodbye. An ace of a place. Looking forward to another stay over the holidays next winter.
