Pros: Views, trails, taproom
Cons: Wait staff in the restaurant is hit and miss. We had some service issues. Long waits on food and drink. Understaffed one night.
Location: Great hiking trails. Skyline drive is fantastic. We saw deer and black bear and a lot of small mammals during our stay.
Good hotel. Great view. Friendly staff. The food is pretty good and the beer is good at the taproom.

A Day at Skyland on Shenadoah National ParkPosted Jul 29, 2015
Pros: It's setting is fantastic with the extraordinary views of sunsets and tiny towns in the distance. The décor is rustic but very convenient.
Location: location on Skyland Drive, about midpoint in the Park.
We had a wonderful one day visit and two nights to show my new daughter-in-law the beauty of Shenadoah National Park. We picked the area around Skyland, and Big Meadows for its fantastic vistas.. We hiked the delightful circuit of Hawksbill (about 3 mi) and the easier Old Stony Man (about 1 mile) hike and visited the Big Meadows museum and saw the films for an overview of this park and its history. The breakfasts and dinner at Skyland restaurant were excellent...nice variety on the menu and cooked to perfection!!! Truly memorable occasion!

Rustic spot to enjoy naturePosted Jul 29, 2015
The rooms are adequate for sleep and a shower. We had a balcony that had a nice view of the mountains. There is local entertainment at the tap room most nights. Food in restaurant is just okay and if you want a turkey sandwich to go it is $6.

Renovated Skyland rooms are a big improvement.Posted Jul 20, 2015
Location: Since this facility is in a National Park, it is an ideal place to stay to enjoy the surrondings.
The upgraded room we stayed in was much better than the old rooms. Bathroom facilities were especially nice.

Pleasant rooms with fantastic viewsPosted Jun 17, 2015
We had one night at the upper level of the Appledore building. The room itself was fine (no aircon, but not needed at this height), and the view west was stupendous, though for us limited by the haze during the day. Lots of interesting birdlife by day, and dark enough for great skies at night. Food in the dining room was pretty good. Signage was poor, especially if you wanted to go walking without a guide, even on the Appalachain Trail.

Mountain weekend.Posted Jun 15, 2015
Location: The Skyline Drive is an attraction in and of itself. Should be experienced for its whole length.
All rooms have good views of the Shehandoah Valley. The hotel managers are unnecassarily stingy about water use.

Convenient, comfortable lodge on Skyline DrivePosted Jun 13, 2015
Pros: Location-ideal first stop on our drive from Washington to Asheville. Staff-friendly, informative and courteous
A lodge is a lodge, and as such will not compare favourably with a chic hotel, however Skyland Resort was exactly what we expected and served us very well as a stop over on our drive through the Blue Ridge mountains from Washington. The staff were very courteous and helpful, and our accommodation was clean and comfortable. We were not blessed with brilliant weather on the morning we were there, but I'm sure that the views would have been wonderful had we been. We had a very pleasant bar meal, where the staff were lovely and the live music was a treat.

Gorgeous LocationPosted Jun 13, 2015
Pros: Location, location, location! The views from the dining room (and every room we've ever stayed in) can't be beat.
Cons: Updating the bathrooms would help a lot.
Location: Beautiful Skyline drive.. travel the road, watch the wildlife, hike the trails. Go to Luray Caverns down in the valley!
We go to Skyland to unwind, hike, and enjoy this gorgeous location. The rooms are rustic, the bathrooms need some updating, but when you sit on your balcony and watch the sunset, listening to bird song, and smelling clean mountain air, it's worth every penny. We travel along Skyline Drive and hike the local trails and the AT to waterfalls and mountain heights. The food is good, the beds are great, and the people are very nice. It's a favorite weekend destination for us 2-3 times a year to decompress and tune back into nature and each other.
