Quaint lodge on Skyline Drive

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: Convenience on Skyline Drive.
Cons: The hot & cold water in the shower were not easily adjusted to a comfortable temperature. Also, fee for booking online not disclosed until checkout.
Location: Breakfast at Big Meadow was a treat. After breakfast completed Dark Falls trail -a short forest service road is an easier climb out of the Falls area
Basic, clean, quaint lodge directly on Skyline Drive. Location. Location. Location! During our brief overnight stay, a black mother bear and cub, numerous deer, and a third black bear were spotted - all from the comfort of our car - very cool!

Beautiful scenery / close hiking trails

Posted Jul 15, 2014
The hotel check-in was very slow and disorganized. However, staff was helpful in checking for requested, specific room numbers. The resturant and lounge offer a good variety of foods at reasonable prices. The breakfast buffet is wonderful.

Great views.

Posted Jul 11, 2014
It is a nice place for a few nights. The hotel is really old and not the cleanest, but I would stay there again. I realize that the stay there is not about luxury but the experience of being right inside the park, having a gorgeous view from the balcony and smelling the old wood:) if you are worried about bears, great alternative to camping. Also, helpful staff.

Awesome views over the Shenandoah valley and river

Posted Jul 4, 2014
Pros: The place, high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Friendly staff.
Cons: Food could go up a notch.
Location: Walking along the Appalachaian trail, to waterfalls and high points. Local towns were not interesting; Luray has a Wallmart!
This is a unique resort. The views are awesome over the Shenandoah valley. We saw a bear, lots of deer and climbed several high points. There are many well marked trails through the mountains. Food at the hotel is OK but nothing special or vegetarian really.

Park Lodge

Posted Jun 27, 2014
Pros: The Skyland Resort is in the middle of Shenandoah National Park so it is very convenient for travelers who wish to stay in the park.
Cons: It appeared that some of the building were being renovated. Our building definitely could have used a little sprucing up.
This is a rustic park lodge facility in Shenandoah National Park. Although it is not modern, it met my expectations for this type of lodging. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted the convenience of staying inside the park. The restaurant food was very good for both dinner and breakfast. The front desk staff and the restaurant staff were all excellent.

Skyland Resort

Posted Jun 21, 2014
Pros: I loved the location and the cleanliness. No wifi was weird, but I went for the solitude so it was not a problem. No AC. but that wasn't a problem
Cons: I would have liked guided tours by vehicle for those of us who can not walk up the steep hills
Location: Great programs given by rangers, both at Skyland and Big Meadows. near Luray and Charlottesville, VA
I had a great time at Skyland. I was there for four nights, and enjoyed myself very much. It was safe, peaceful and calming. Lots of wildlife, deer on the side of the path were not bothered by people walking by, and from the balcony on my room I could watch all kinds of birds and wildlife. The food was great, and portions were large, sometimes too much to finish.

Restful stay on Skyline Drive

Posted May 23, 2014
Our standard room was just perfect for a stay in the mountains. The view was breath-taking and the small balcony was just enough for us to be able to enjoy the afternoon sun and the birds in the trees. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. We might HAVE to return again.

Home base in Shenandoah

Posted May 19, 2014
Pros: Location and setting.
Cons: A refigerator in the room.
We spent three nights in Shenandoah at Skyland. The location was at the cented of Skyline Drive. The view of the valley from the room was pleasant and just what we hoped it would be. The meals at the dinning room were great, good food and propt and friendly service. We hiked several trails both north and south on the drive. We even saw black bear and deer alont the road. It was a great get away at one of the best national parks in the east.
