Beautiful gardens, superb views, great concierge

Posted May 3, 2015
Pros: The grounds, gardens and pool are breathtaking. Concierge arranged a meet and greet airport transfer and a private car to Aswan. The room was great.
Location: Great location in the centre of Luxor. Pertect for shopping or as a base for excursions.
A delightfully smooth stay on my return visit. Concierge was outstanding and staff great. Beautiful gardens, pool and a lovely room. Thanks to all concerned. There is a sense of history and charm that sets this hotel apart. I'll be back.

Pavilion Winter Palace upgraded to Winter Palace

Posted Mar 16, 2015
Pros: Very friendly and safe hotel. Easy access, right on the East bank of Nile.
Location: The Kings valley, Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, Karnak and Luxor Temples. The Luxor Museum. All this can be seen in one full day if you start early.
We booked 2 rooms in Pavillion Winter Palace but were upgraded to Winter Palace when we got there. Pavillion Winter Palace is in the same boundary wall as the Winter Palace and is a 3 or 4 story newer building on one side of the back Garden. I did not see the rooms, so can not comment on them. The complex is beautiful and very safe. The breakfast was excellent at the Winter Palace and I don't think it will be any different at the Pavillion. They are basically the same hotel except that Pavillion caters to large group tours. It is best that you book a room with breakfast included so you don't waste time on breakfast elsewhere. The Hotel staff is very friendly and efficient. Egypt these days is hungry for tourists so they will do everything to accommodate you. I do not recommend wandering around in Luxor on your own without a guide as people hassle you a lot trying to sell you stuff, which gets annoying. It is more so now then before. The food at the Winter Palace is very good. There are other places you can try. Ask your guide. Better to go with your guide so people don't hassle you. Change money at the airport, you will get a better rate, although right outside the Hotel is a Thomas Cook office but the exchange rate is not as good.

Downton Abbey by the Nile

Posted Mar 10, 2015
Pros: -Location -Beautify historic building -Friendly staff
Cons: -Both of our bathtubs were a bit old, and stained, this gave them the appearance of being dirty, which they were not.
Location: The Luxor Temple is visible down the street from the Hotel, and it located right on the Nile
My family of 5 stayed here in Feb. 2015. It is a beautiful old hotel, the best in Luxor. My daughters said it reminded them of staying at Downton Abbey, their favorite TV show. The grounds are beautiful, and the pool area is modern and very nice. Everything about this hotel is charming. The rooms are well appointed; we had two rooms that connected. Each with a balcony. The restaurant was outstanding, we were quite surprised to find such good french food here. There is another restaurant that required coat and tie, which I did not bring, so we didn't try that one. The bar has a sign saying "no casual attire" so we didn't go there either, since we were not expecting a dress code. Overall, the food gets a A+ grade.

Hotel de luxe défraichit

Posted Feb 23, 2015
