Wonderful hotel on Bellecour Square

Posted May 28, 2015
Pros: Our room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was large and filled with great amenities. We had a great view of the park and cathedral.
Cons: A second luggage rack would be helpful.
Location: Old Town is kiddy corner across from the Bellecour Park and river, and there are many restaurants nearby.
WOW!! What a great hotel! This was our 2nd stay at this wonderful hotel. From the moment we walked in the door we felt at home, with the very friendly staff. Our room faced the Bellecour Square and had a great view of the Cathedral on the hill - it was magical at night all lit up. The hotel is in a perfect location, and an easy walk to Old Town and the main attractions of central Lyon. The 2 concierges were extremely helpful and friendly. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

Terrible hotel in a good location.

Posted May 5, 2015
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Tear this place down and start new!
Location: Excellent city center location and great views from the room.
Terribly outdated and run-down rooms, would of been more comfortable sleeping on the carpet than the mattress. I spent 2 weeks travelling all over France and stayed in 12 hotels and I have to say this is the worst place and smallest room I experienced. The room is really so small one can hardly move around. The 4th floor I stayed in constantly smelled like food (I couldn't figure out why) and the doors and windows are paper-thin. Terrible!!

PERFECTLY FRENCH SMALL HOTEL--WONDERFUL STAFF!

Posted Apr 17, 2015
Pros: The Staff and charm. As I do not need a gym and large TVs the lack of these only enhanced my stay. So the room rate was not affected my their upkeep
Cons: The Air Conditioning did not seem to be working very hard.
Location: Visit silk weaving studio to see how family lived in their workshop in late 19C compared to Lumiere brother's, who invented moving pictures, Manson
Hotel Royal is centrally located on the Peninsula between the Soane and Rhone Rivers. It is just across the street from the Metro and many choices for meals and shopping plus short walk to either river. The staff is very friendly, know English and eager to please. The breakfast is lovely, the chef right there to prepare an omelet or eggs to order. Lyon is part of the The Silk Road and influences from the far east are evident in the decorations throughout. My room looked out toward Bellecour Square from perfect French windows. The bed was very comfortable. My only concern for American travelers was the A C. I had it on high although it was only in the 70's as the sun was quite forceful coming in from the east. While I was wearing a light cotton dress, I saw many local residents in heavy coats and scarfs tight to the neck, perhaps people enjoy hotter weather here in Lyon? The bar kept the window closed most of the time and I found the air stuffy although the room itself was welcoming. The Hotel is connected to The Paul Boucuse Institute so be sure to dine there--I had lunch in front of the large window where I could watch the chefs cook and plate up my entree This was one of the highlights of my trip. The concierge in his full morning atire, was delightful, helping me to understand the subway system and mapping out places I wanted to see. I would definitely return to this hotel but not in summer heat.

Excellent position in centre of Lyon

Posted Mar 28, 2015
Pros: Location and excellent staff
Cons: Our junior suite was spacious but a little "tired".
Comfortable room but in need of renovation. Staff were helpful and efficient. We had an excellent lunch in the Paul Bocuse cookery institute next door. Hotel is close to all central attractions.
