great hotel

Posted Apr 12, 2015
Pros: Helpful staff. Lovely rooms with balconies.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Fabulous views easy to get into Funchal. Lots of things to do and see.
Went on some of the trips organised by the hotel. One to the west of the island was excellent. Dolphin and whale watching was very good. Has 2 swimming pools one salt water one fresh water. Good restaurants in the hotel and independant ones near by. Cable car to the gardens was great. Would stay again.

Lovely landmark hotel in great location

Posted Apr 7, 2015
Pros: The traditional grandeur, the stunning grounds/gardens, the sea level rock pool and sun deck, the views from the main lounge.
Cons: Maybe a gentle update of some of the slightly dated 1970s charm of the garden wing of the hotel
Location: Enviable location a short walk from Funchal
Lovely Easter weekend stay. Excellent buffet at poolside restaurant, great breakfast, great room on top floor with stunning view of Funchal Bay, comfy bed, beautiful and grand public spaces. Great pool area and access to sea with rock pool and secluded sun decks.

Welcomed Home

Posted Mar 27, 2015
Pros: Everything! The location, quality of both bedrooms and general areas, quality and variety of food for breakfast, and friendliness of all staff.
Cons: If there had been any problems I would have felt able to raise them with a staff member and I am confident the problem would have been resolved.
Location: Swimming, Lavada walks, fish and local produce market, dolphin/whale watching, Funchal Baptist Church English service, gardens and parks, museums.
As returning guests my husband and I were welcomed 'home' as we checked in and you really do feel like it is home or better than home. The whole experience of staying here is one of comfort and relaxation from the moment you walk through the door. All members of staff are very friendly, pleasant, and professional with many of them having worked at Reids for many years. All staff members go out of their way to make you fell welcomed and remember you. There are great views from both the general areas of the hotel and the grounds. The rooms have various views of the port and Funchal or the gardens, we had requested a view of the port and Funchal and were not disappointed by the room we were allocated. The gardens are very well kept and make for a great place to relax if you want a different environment to the pool areas. Reids is in an ideal location, close to bus stops, a few small local shops and some great restaurants including their own. The shuttle service to and from the centre of Funchal is comfortable and regular. Our stay at Reids did not disappoint in any way and provided a very comfortable place to be even when the weather let us down a bit. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. The free soft drinks from the mini bar are a great addition and much appreciated. The 'turn down' service provided means you go back to your room that has been made ready for bed whilst you're out having your evening meal. Looking forward to our next visit later in the year.
