“Good value for money”

This hotel represents good value for money as far as we were concerned. Note that the entrance is at the top of a fairly steep hill so if you are mostly on foot prepare for a regular climb everyday. Breakfast can be crowded so get down early (8.00 ish). The quality of the drinks was not great (both fruit juices and coffee) reflecting cost. Rooms were cleaned satisfactorily everyday. The courtesy bus gets full - if you are reasonably active you can walk into the centre of Funchal in about 30 - 40 mins. The Lido offers a nearer walk along the promenade. There are any number of acceptable restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the hotel.

“Nice Hotel”

The hotel was nice and staff friendly for someone on their own. The facilities was great with indoor pool. Warmer than the outdoor one. also with fitness centre and jucuzzi which I enjoyed most days there. Entertain good. Overall a nice hotel to stay in.

“Very good value for money”

Solid 3 star hotel representing excellent value for money. Restaurant does get a bit crowded at peak times, and there could be more imaginative and varied food for breakfast. However, we would return and could recomend the hotel without reservations.

“Hilly Location”

This hotel was clean and friendly and the facilities were very good. Possibly more variety at breakfast would be my only comment. The uphill location was very good exercise, and the courtesy coach very useful

“The price was right”

We felt that we got a very good deal on this hotel with Expedia and it was as expected. The room was very basic and a little shabby but quiet and in a good location although many reviewers refer to the steepness of the drive, this was not a problem. Reception staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was OK although very crowded in the dining room on one occasion.Bread rolls were very fresh and fruit was available.If you want a full cooked you will be disappointed.We enjoyed our stay immensely. This was our first visit to Madeira and hopefully will not be our last. It only takes about 20 minutes to walk into Funchal Centre from the hotel-we never used the courtesy bus.There are many restaurants near the Hotel which is in the Lido area.If you walk Westwards you will come to a newer part of the Hotel zone complete with shopping mall and 6 screen cinema. This was a plus for us as it is something to do in the evenings-films are in English generally with portugese subtitles.Overall a lovely break. Wouldn't especially go back to this hotel complex but if the price was so low again and we were on a tight budget would consider it.

“Staff all lovely but the location is dire!”

A very steep hill to climb from the matn road and then a steeper one to enter the hotel OK if you arrive by the courtesy bus but this does not run in the evening. Not much choice for dinner especially for vegetarians and most food not hot enough.Food at pool restaurant very tasty.

“Recuperating at Funchal's Estrelicia”

Having just lost my Mother, Estrelicia gave me space to grieve in a secure holiday environment. The courtesy coach to town and back was a bonus as I lacked energy to walk much. The terrace and poolside enabled me to lounge in the sun even in January! The Piano Bar had comfy settees and live evening entertainment. Internet access was basic at Reception & costly at 1euro @15minutes yet enabled me to stay in touch with home. Staff were polite and friendly. My stay gave me the undisturbed rest, space and holiday I needed - I'll be back - this time to indulge in a more energetic exploration of sunny Madeira!

“Good value for money”

It is clean, quiet and well-located. The hotel is located at the top of a steep slope and some people might find that hard. The room I stayed in had a beautiful view to the sea and part of Funchal. Breakfast is good. I did not use any of the other features of the hotel (swimming pool, entertainment nights, restaurants, etc.)

“Good value for money, although the location could be better”

Getting to the hotel was a bit of a hassle since I missed the Aerobus from the airport and had to use the local buses to get there, unless I wanted to fork 25 Euros on a taxi of course. Hiking the hill with my luggage wasn't fun at all, and the reception was even worse. A young, full of unpleasant attitude woman was at the front desk and she made my arrival a bit less nicer. The woman's tone of voice and way of addressing me was not acceptable at all and the room she was trying to give me was even less acceptable. I had to change my tone myself, and demand what I has requested in my original reservation through Expedia. She reacted to that and I was given a room on the 11th floor, with seaviews and a double-bed. The hotel itself is Ok, for the price of the room and the breakfast included. However, if I go to madeira gain i would probably look for similar deals at a different hotel, closer to town or on the main Estrada Monumental Road.
