Walking distance to overnight inexpensive parking and to Aerobus back to airport. Breakfast buffet with a la carte options very good. Large grocery store within a couple minutes walk. Easy walking to main center of Funchal.

Nice, clean boutique hotel conveniently located near the heart of Funchal. The airport shuttle dropped us off at the La Vie Shopping Mall, a 5 minutes walk to the hotel. The staff are super-friendly and helpful.

The style and design of the hotel suited us. Furniture, lights etc were interesting and obviously chosen with care to suit the style of the place. We appreciated it. Maybe a bit too much black paint, but photo murals of dancers in common areas were a lovely touch. Restaurant was good for breakfast and evening meals. They also supplied take away lunches for trips. Service was very good (good english spoken). Very good location near main west part of town centre, and near stop for Aerobus.

Holiday apartment with kichen
Room was fine plenty of space, bathroom was fine apart from not keen on the painted floor, would be good if it had been tiled. Could not get a picture on the TVs, but did not pursue, Wfi was fine. Good Central position close to the centre in the old part of the city. Breakfast was very good, staff friendly and helpful, English speaking. Hotel information states Airport shuttle incorrect, booked taxi for us at our expense. Would stay again

Lovely Retro Hotel
Right in the town within walking distance of Funchal attractions. Quirky retro design decor. Lovely staff for which nothing is to much trouble. Would definitely recommend this hotel and visit again.

Great design, but some choices ... stink
As happens too often with design, form takes precedent over function at this hotel. The great amount of thought that went into aesthetics would have been better spent on small, functional improvements. The most basic being the uncomfortable bed and pillows. Next, a bathroom with angled-wall, and downward-facing mirror and sink that you couldn't quite lean over due to that angle, made simple tasks like brushing your teeth difficult. The shower -- great to look at -- leaked all over the bathroom floor. A strange "closet" with no hanging hardware of any type (for gimp storage?). And in what has become one of the strangest fads in boutique hotel design: only a (n unfrosted) glass wall between the bed and the toilet. Great if you're one of those "open door policy" couples, but otherwise only good for recreating those awkward moments avoiding eye contact with your dog while taking it out for a walk (we turned on the sink, turned up the radio, while the other busily unpacked while facing away, then we celebrated a strange, unwanted milestone in our relationship). The staff was excellent, and the breakfast was above average for a hotel. Great location, but street parking only, metered from 8-8 available right across the street. If you look up the location on Google Maps, it's wrong as of 6/2016. The location marked on the confirmation email, was correct. Room was on offer, so we felt we got what we paid for. We would have been disappointed at full price.

This hotel is located in an Extremely convenient location Very close to the centre of the city close to all the restaurants. The room was very nice and clean with the exception Of the shower that leaked. Breakfast was okay and staff were nice but would have helped if they actually told you that hot breakfast(eggs) was also available other than the other stuff at the time of breakfast instead of having to find out for yourself. hotel Lobby is very small and painted in Black so makes the place look even smaller and harder to see especially at night. Overall we were very happy with our stay at this hotel.

Great Hotel, Poor communication
The Hotel itself and staff working the days we were there were very nice and accommodating. However, there was a burst water pipe on our floor the week before we arrived and our room was out of commission when we came to check in. No one had communicated this to us so we were unable to make other accommodations. The Hotel Management did make arrangements for us to stay in another hotel, but it was a large chain hotel which was much different then the small boutique style hotels we prefer. After several back and forth discussions, they were able to move other guests and make room for us at the original hotel we had booked on a different floor.

A reconceptualization of space
Funchal Design Hotel is conveniently located relative to downtown (0.5km) Funchal. Walking distance to Old Town and Farmers Market. Many restaurants within 5-10 Minutes walk. 3 minutes walk to Dolce Vita Shopping Centre. About 5 minutes walk fro English Church where we saw 2 concerts. Internally the hotel space has been redesigned so that there are no square rooms except the restaurant. The angular rooms, black and white decor and large murals of dancers are quietly stimulating. The design and decor were complemented by very pleasant and helpful staff.

Very modern hotel. The room looked like large one bedroom apartment. Spacious bathroom. Two TVs. Walking distance to everything. Walking distance to a mall and grocery store. On a quiet street. We can't complain about anything.

Ottimo hotel, ottimo servizio
Hotel piccolo ma ottimo servizio, hall dalle dimensioni limitate, parti comune limitate alla sola sala della colazione ma assolutamente comodo. Camere ampie, ho prenotato due camere, leggermente differenti ma entrambe di buona dimensione. In una bagno tutto vetrato e visibile dal letto, nell'altro solo una porta vetrata, scomoda e rumorosa ma ok per design. Prese elettriche in tutta la stanza, molto comoda, accessori bagni buoni, letto comodo, oscuranti non perfetti, può dare fastidio un po' di luce. Tv piccola mai utilizzata. Colazione: buffet molto limitato con pochissime cose dolci e salate ma ottima disponibilità per alcuni piatti cucinati come omelette di vario tipo o toast e caffetteria preparata espressa. Garage un po' caro ma molto comodo a 30 metri dall'ingresso dell'hotel. WiFi non sempre veloce. E' possibile raggiungere la prima linea del mare e il centro in soli 700 metri. Hotel in linea con i costi degli altri hotel, cari in tutta Funchal ma soldi ben spesi. Consigliato.

Bela decoracao, tudo impecavel. Na recepcao o Sr Artur Jorge nos atendeu com muita simpatia e atencao indicando atividades locais e atracoes turisticas fora de Funchal. Meus agradecimento a todos Recomendo.

Bodde på hotellet i 11 netter i samband med jul/ nyttår 2021/22. Nøkkelkortene sluttet å virke altsom oftest og vi måtte ned for å hente nye eller at personalen måtte låse oss inn når vi kom.Dette gikk det dog bedre med de siste dagene. Personalen var meget service minded og var veldig lei seg.Det var trass alt nyttårshelg og vanskelig å få tak i teknisk hjelp. Puter og madrasser hadde trekk med " gummert yte"under putetrekken og laken så det kunne bli ganske klamt etter en stund. Beliggenheten er veldig bra.Kort gåavstand til sentrum,kjøpesenter,havnen...ja,til alt egentlig. Flybussen stopper kun to,tre kvartaler bort. Frokost var helt ok.

De vriendelijkheid en behulpzaamheid van de medewerkers van het hotel verdient echt een 10! De kamer is prima en werd elke dag goed schoon gemaakt. Het ontbijt was eenvoudig maar werd met zorg klaar gezet. De ligging van het hotel is ook prima. Net buiten de drukte van Funchal op maar vijf minuten lopen van het centrum.

Hôtel pratiquant le surbooking
Cet hôtel pratique le surbooking, malgré une reservation effectuée plus d'un mois et demi avant notre arrivée, l'hôtel nous a envoyé un mail nous précisant l'adresse d'un autre hôtel à plus de 2 km du centre ville et à prélevé dans la foulée notre carte bancaire sans nous laisser l'opportunité d'annuler notre réservation. Ce n'est pas professionnel.

Zentrale Lage, leider z.T. abgewohnt
Hotel war überbucht, wurden die ersten beiden Nächte in einem sehr schönen Hotel (Quinta Mirabela) auf dem Berg Richtung Monte untergebracht. Design Hotel dann war sehr enttäuschend. Zwar zentrale Lage und schönes, modernes Design aber z.T. abgewohnt. In unserem Zimmer war die Glastür zum Bad/Toilette zerstört und ließ sich nicht schließen, Glassplitter auf dem Boden. Die Kanten der Wände z.T. durch Koffer und Staubsauger abgeschlagen Der Siphon unter dem Waschbecken tropfte stark, das Wasser lief über den Boden, Schminkspiegel fehlte, Ablage in der Dusche war abgebrochen. Wir erwarteten kein sehr ruhiges Zimmer, die Lautstärke des Strassenlärms war dann aber doch überraschend, auch bei geschlossenem Fenster.

Hotellin oma ratkaisu
Saapuessamme hotelliin meille ilmoitettiin, että yövymme kaksi ensimmäistä yötä heidän viiden tähden Mirabela-hotellissa. Asia lähinnä todettiin, ja sanottiin, ettei meidän tarvitse maksaa ylimääräistä, vaikka siirrymme viiden tähden hotelliin! Aika erikoinen huomautus. Mirabela ok, tosin kehitettävää löytyi Designia enemmän! Annoimme jälkeenpäin palautetta erityisesti sijainnista, joka oli kaukana keskustasta. Taas toistettiin tähtiluokitusta, mutta lopulta viesti meni perille, että olimme valinneet Designin juuri keskustasijainnin takia. Kaikkineen Design toimi paremmin kuin heidän viiden tähden paikkansa.

Wir haben für eine Woche gebucht, und der Preis ist in Ordnung. Leider sind die Badezimmer schwarz gestrichen und das erschwert den Blick in den Spiegel. Den Holzrost in der Dusche empfanden wir als sehr unhygienisch. Auch die Matratzen sind sehr hart, mit einer Unterlage die ständig Falten wirft. Mein Mann wollte Morgens statt normalen Kaffee immer einen Espresso, den wir extra bezahlen mussten, obwohl wir sonst nie einen extra Wunsch, wie Spiegel- oder Rühreier oder Toast wollten. Dass alles gibt es ohne Aufpreis, und von daher fand ich das etwas kleinlich. Außerdem war unser Tresor defekt und die versprochene Reparatur erfolgte nie!

Nett eingerichtetes Hotel in Zentrumsnähe
Das Hotel nutzt den vorhandenen Platz sehr gut aus und wirkt von innen geräumiger als es von außen aussieht. Trotz kleiner Schwierigkeiten mit meiner Kreditkarte am Anfang hatten wir letztlich einen unproblematischen Check-In. Die Zimmer sind stilvoll eingerichtet und sauber, das Personal sehr eifrig und um die Gäste bemüht.

Zentral gelegenes Stadthotel
Der Empfang beim Einchecken war sehr freundlich. Die Ausstattung macht dem Namen "Design Hotel" alle Ehre. Sowohl die Gemeinschaftsräume als auch das Zimmer sind originell ausgestattet. Z.B. das Tänzerthema an den Wänden von Tezeption, Treppenhaus und Restaurant.

Es un hotel muy moderno y el diseño de la habitacion me encantó. Me gustó la ubicacion, mas cerca del centro historico que de la zona turistica. Sin dudar si vas a madeira tienes que alquilar un coxe. Lo unico que destacaria como malo/no acorde es el desayuno, nada de variedad ni calidad, si pedias te hacian omeletes pero no es su punto fuerte, recomendaria ampliar la gama en bolleria por ejemplo.

Sehr empfehlungswertes Stadthotel
Als Paar (ü 70) haben wir 8 Tage in diesem Funchaler Hotel gewohnt und waren insgesamt sehr zufrieden. Klein, aber fein, nur 16 Zimmer, nur 5 - 8 Gehminuten zum Altstadt-Zentrum und zum Einkaufszentrum Dolce Vita. Zimmer sehr sauber, Restaurant- und Rezeptionscrew kompetent und sehr hilfsbereit. Bei höchstens 32 Gästen kann man kein Riesenbuffet am Frühstückstisch erwarten, aber alles war frisch und ausreichend und Spezialwünsche z.B beim Frühstücksei wurden erfüllt. Das Restaurant haben wir nicht benutzt, sondern uns abends auf dem Zimmer ( Kitchenettenausstattung) selbst versorgt. Gästen, die ständig eine Smartphonverbindung brauchen und am Frühstückstisch mit dem Tablet hantieren wollen, ist das Hotel nicht zu empfehlen. Es besteht auf jedem Zimmer eine Internet-Buchsenverbindung ( passendes Kabel erforderlich) und im Foyer ist das hoteleigene WLAN nutzbar.

Litet rum med skön säng. Badrummet har cool design (inklusive full insyn...), men vatten läckte från duschen ut på golvet och det kändes inte så fräscht med en ständigt fuktig trä-trall i duschen. Frukost ingick och den var väldigt bra; varmrätterna beställdes á la carte! Riktigt bra läge om man vill se själva Funchal och inte hänga i hotellkvarteren. Genuin liten bar runt hörnet.

Han sido unas vacaciones excelentes en el Hotel Design Funchal, con unas instalaciones preciosas y un personal muy atento y servicial. Sin duda, para repetir y recomendarlo.
