“Tired and in need of a refurb.”
We booked a 4 day break at the very last minute so no research beforehand but prepared to take what was available. After booking read that the hotel was run down and agree that the decor was very tired and the hotel was long overdue a refurb. However The reception was welcoming, cool and airy but the same could not be said for our room with no air con. ventilation was via the balcony window which meant to keep the room coolish you had to put up wth street noise etc. On the plus side the room and bedding were clean, and kept clean daily with towels also changed daily. The room had a separate kitchenette and although dated everything worked, found having a fridge especially useful. The hotel had a pool which was great for a cooling dip and only 200 metres from the hotel was the Funchal Lido. Our balcony had a sea view and also looked out over central Funchal which is a couple of kilometres from the hotel but with a bus stop and taxi rank literally on the doostep transport into town was not an issue. There are lots of good restaurants and bars within 2 to 3 minutes walk of the hotel catering for all tastes and pockets. There are also range of shops including a reasonable supermarket for those wishing to self cater. This hotel was bargain basement, no frills but clean with helpful, friendly staff, providing an excellent base for exploring Funchal with good local facilties on the doorstep. Probably better for a short break than a longer stay
