This is a very comfortable, very stylish hotel, with some quirky but chic furnishings. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant can take some time on busy nights but was always good (though never spectacular). The nearest eateries are a taxi/bus ride away in Funchal or Monte, with many styles and prices. The pool is on a scale with the boutique style of the hotel, but is clean and pleasant on a hot afternoon. There are a small but well equipped Gymnasium, never used while we were there (except by us) and a small spa that has sauna, steam rooms, Jacuzzi and offers some interesting treatments. I wanted to try the chocolate wrap but didnt have time. We had only the smallest niggles. There are no tea making facilities in the rooms, but the tea from room service comes in many tasty varieties. Our Aircon wasnt working and it was hot for our first few days, it was comfortable to sleep with the windows wide open, but the neighbours dog barked for 5 non-stop hours on the hottest night. Dont be put off, these were the only problem of a blissfully relaxing week. I cant put into words just how nice and what good value it is. Go and find out... soon

“Great hotel if you don't mind a steep walk!!”

Absolutely fantastic hotel, stunning location but don't be fooled by any reviews stating its a short but steep walk from Funchal. Its not!! The walk down takes about 20 minutes and is hard work on the legs. As for coming up, its not for the faint hearted, would recommed taking a taxi! Apart from that I'd recommend this hotel to anyone, the service and facilities are top class.

“Super Hotel”

Excellent small hotel with great service, wonderful views and a really good restaurant. You can walk down the hill into Funchal if your legs are up to the steep slope but do try the local bus trip down - almost as thrilling as the toboggan! I would certainly recommend this hotel and it's restaurant which has the advantage of not far to stagger to your bed!

“Superb hotel!”

Have just returned from a week's stay at the Quinta Mirabela and was very impressed with the service. The location would not be to everyone's taste but if like us, you don't want to be in the ''hotel zone '', you'll love this place! The walk into town is a fair hike down quite a steep path but is manageable - the fact that the Funchal tobogganers fly down the path behind you just adds to the excitement! Probably should admit that we never tried the walk uphill but taxis and buses are readily available.The hotel's service was nothing but efficient and very friendly - our luggage failed to arrive and the staff were very helpful in trying to relocate it. I look forward to returning to the Quinta Mirabela.

We booked this hotle for our honeymoon and we were not disapointed. What a place, the staff and facilities where second to none. You must eat in the resturant, the food is to die for. I would definatley go back. It's Quite and very relaxing.

Very friendly and excellent service. It's a small hotel so even when it's busy it does not feel crowded and there was never a rush to get to the sun loungers. I lovely place to stay.

Wonderfully chic hotel set high above Funchal on the road which is part of the Monte toboggan run. Great views from our bedroom. Hotel very clean with excellent facilities. Staff friendly and speak good English. Food - breakfast tasty and filling. Evening meals slightly pricey but very good. We had a fabulous time and will go back again next year.

“A really lovely find”

We enjoyed our time at Hotel Quinta Mirabella. The walk up just has to be tried at least once (as does the Tobaggan run down which stops very near the hotel) and it means you needn't feel guilty tucking into the lovely food in the restaurant. The books there to be borrowed during your stay was a lovely touch. Only gripe: the pool was far too cold to tip more than a toe in. Lucky the spa area was available and pleasant to stay in.

“Great holiday - will definately go back”

We have just had one week at the hotel - it is on a very steep hill with fantastic views over Funchal. Buses and taxis only 5 mins away down hill but don't be tempted to always get taxis, the buses are very good and if you have just missed one there is an excellent coffee shop with fab cakes by the bus stop. Although we went in June the weather was cloudy all week and a couple days of rain so did not get the chance to enjoy lazing by the pool. Did however make full use of the spa and gym (which would benefit from the addition of a bench and some free weights). Breakfast first class and don't be shy about having bucks fizz, it's included!! You should also have at least one evening meal in the restaurant - superb. We did not bother to hire a car - check out the taxi drivers - some of them have details of trips they will take you on, either north or south of the island, at your pace and your decision how long you want to stop in each location. Well worthwhile and good value for money compared with the organised excursions.
