Very good location

Posted May 1, 2015
Pros: Location and good clean accommodation.
Cons: Food! Meals were disappointing for a 5* rated hotel. Drab dining room needs refurbishment. No "wow" factor anywhere. Nothing "delicious" available.
Location: Situated in a newly developing area with lovely hotels. Very safe to walk about. Mostly mature visitors at this time of year.
Decent hotel in a great location at the west end of Funchal. Buses to and from centre stop very close to hotel. Good value-for-money restaurants all around. Mini bus trips go all over the island and are excellent with very good and informative drivers. Pool area of the hotel overlooks the ocean and just outside are lovely gardens and walkways. Our room on 9th floor was to the side but had good views. Many beautiful and free gardens to stroll through in the town.

short break

Posted Apr 24, 2015
Pros: spacious room very clean and serviced daily. Nice pool and plenty of sun beds but it was April. Good breakfast and good restaurants nearby.
Cons: More fresh fruit and natural yoghurt for breakfast (only yoghurt in tubs available).
Location: Near bus stops and local restaurants
speedy check in despite being busy and very helpful information. all god - slight hitch on last day when a very large booking arrived and bar service dwindled to nothing but could see bar staff running around everywhere else. Fortunately left the day before the hotel warned that the restaurant was fully booked and all they offered was room service or a deal at a local restaurant.

Pros: everything
Cons: beds too firm, could do with some more indoor casual seating areas as downstairs is dark & unfriendly
Location: lots of restaurants, supermarkets & promenade walk. Yellow sightseeing bus stops nearby + 2 local buses. HOWEVER everywhere are Very steep hills
Fabulous hotel, close to all restaurants, supermarkets etc. There is a the promenade walk in front of the hotel. Outdoor pool HEATED & large indoor heated pool for EVERYONE, not reserved for spa clients! rooms lovely & large 90% with side sea view we had 909. beds a little firm for me, but they are NOT cheap mattresses. breakfast good in nice bright room, can have it outside on terrace weather permitting. good free parking in underground carpark. not a tourist hotel but appears to be mainly business clients ( which suits us!) Madeira is a volcanic island i.e. nearly every road & path is a 1 in 3 except along the main seafront of Funchal. you do need to be quite fit to walk anywhere. do rent a car & see the island, it's beautiful. the new roads are excellent, albeit most of the time you spend in tunnels!

Ideal location for exploring Madeira

Posted Apr 1, 2015
Pros: Clean, comfortable, good food selection, good location, all as expected
Cons: Tranfer from Airport to hotel
Location: lots of local attractions, best to organise locally, but do your research beforehand
Hotel is outside central Funchal but can easily be reached by local buses, not expensive. Transport from the airport is not perfect and better communication is required. It pays to research the island and its transport system prior to arrival to make the best of the stay, e.g. local buses, attractions, etc.. Local arrangements with the right information are best.

Hotel bien situé.Chambre confortables

Schönes Hotel in guter Lage

Posted Mar 21, 2015

Excellent hotel

Posted Mar 14, 2015
We had a very pleasant stay in the Melia last week. The staff were friendly and very helpful Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was excellent and there was always a chef on hand to make something if it was not already on offer. The hotel is nicely situated with an indoor and an outdoor pool. These are very well looked after and towels, sunbeds and umbrellas are available. There are plenty of restaurants of a good quality within walking distance of the hotel. Reid's Hotel is also within walking distance if you feel like trying their delightful afternoon tea! The excellent aerobus service from the airport runs right to the hotel. It takes about 40minutes and costs 8 euros return. There are a number of other local buses run past the hotel going into the centre of Funchal and also to places such as Monte which is at the top of the cable car.

Great hotel in Madeira

Posted Mar 1, 2015
Cons: Lounge bar lacked atmosphere . thank goodness for the lovely Philip!
We stayed for one week in the Melia and had a very relaxing holiday. All the staff were friendly and helpful especially at reception. We stayed B and B and found the breakfasts to be of a high standard. The garden area and swimming pool were lovely and looked over the ocean. We particularly appreciated the comfortable sun loungers and the fact that they were always plenty to go round. The staff in the garden bar were great and the lunches were first class Well done everyone at the Melia! We look forward to out next visit.
