“Great hotel and staff”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pestana Promenade in March. The hotel is lovely and the staff were extremely helpful at all times. Buffet breakfasts were great and with a good choice of hot and cold dishes. The hotel is a short walk from the bus stop into Funchal, so convenient for getting about. Plenty of sun-loungers and umbrellas by the pool, and the pool bar/snack bar had a variety of dishes for lunch. We ate out, so didn't use the hotel restaurant in the evening, but can recommend the cocktails in the Breezes bar.

“Excellent on all levels!!”

We had a 11 night stay at the Pestana Promenade and on levels it was fantastic! Madeira island is not for young and lively, the average age of holiday makers are pensioners, so if you want a relaxing time, to chill, exercise and holiday at a sloooow pace, Madeira is for There are many tours around the island, and some boat trips for fishing and dolphin watching which we didn't experience, so can not comment. The people are lovely on the island and very accommodatiing...Beware of timeshare sales in the hotels. They are not pushy but they make it known that they want to get you interested with cheap drinks and trips. The hotel is new and is about 10mins bus ride from the centre of Funchal, and about 20mins taxi from the airport. We had a 4th floor room, which was spacious with views over the pools and atlantic!! Spectacular. We had bed and breakfast, and the breakfasts were great. There are 3 pools and jaccuzzi. Plus indoor pool, jaccuzzi, steam room and spa. A gym and pool/reading/library room. There are different room sizes, the hotel is clean and modern, and is in my opinion the nicest of the pestana hotels on the island. The staff were all friendly and do anything to make your stay memorable. Even one of our cleaners was chatty and would do anything to ensure we had what we needed in our room, not just on the day we asked but everyday she worked...Exceptional. I would recommend this hotel, however not sure I would return to the island for another 30 years. .

“Best Hotel Ever”

Madeira is a lovely island, best for older travellers and families. The Pestana Promenade is the best hotel I've stayed in for years - had a look at the Pestana Grand, which was very nice but not as well located and not as well designed. The PP is a few miles west of Funchal, which was a good thing in our opinion, and had several other quality hotels in the very nice immediate area, as well as a good choice of cafes and restaurants. Breakfast was great - full of choice and even free champagne on the Sunday morning. The photos of the hotel don't do it justice. Loved it. The only problem was that we hardly ever got a decent cup of tea - apart from the hotel at the top of the toboggan run in Monte - but we could live with that!

“Stylish Hotel”

Pestana Promenade has lovely rooms (most with balcony overlooking the sea), great swimming pools, friendly staff and a good breakfast buffet which you can take on the terrace. It's a long walk into Funchal but there is a regular bus service which stops outside. There are plenty of good local shops and restaurants.

“Added to the list”

The Promenade is an excellent place for a bit of RnR. The pool is excellent - although not deep, the spa is decent enough - there are better to be found, but generally at a price. The dining in the evening is a little limited, but in this location near Funchal that isn't a problem. The breakfast buffet is good. The room was a good size and comfortable. No complaints - typical Pestana service and quality.

“Hard to find fault”

Difficult to find fault. We had a 4th floor room overlooking the sea, more than adequate. No road noise, just the sea sounds. There were no tea making facilities, but we asked and they were provided without fuss or charge. The fridge was useful. Pools and spa were great. The food and service was very good, although the hotel restaurant had little ambience, just a big and impersonal open space, typical of modern resort hotels. There are loads of good restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Although it is a mile or two from the centre of Funchal, the bus service is very frequent, and we found the bus system in Funchal and elsewhere pretty good and good value. No need to hire a car for the duration of the stay, maybe odd days when visiting remote parts of the island. The hotel tourist office was helpful in arranging a couple of tours. Not the cheapest available, but they were very good indeed. You get what you pay for. I deliberately left my lap top at home, but an urgent need to use e-mail arose. I was able to get internet access for a small fee, again no hassle involved. We plan to return to the hotel next year.

“Beautiful hotel”

We thought the design and furnishing of the hotel was beautiful as were the views. The pools really lovely. Staff very helpful although we never really solved a problem with the airconditioning. Food at The Deck was a little over priced and the service charge at Deep Blue quite high, but the hotel itself was very good value. We loved it.

“A wonderful hotel”

The Pestana Promenade was one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in and the grounds and pool area were a delight. The hotel did not seem overly busy but this added to our enjoyment. The breakfast restaurant was very impressive and the staff were friendly and efficient. The range of TV channels in our room included all the UK stations and this was a very welcome and unexpected surprise. The overall cleanliness of this modern hotel was also impressive. The hotel did not operate a courtesy bus to Funchal which would have been convenient, but overall we could not fault the Pestana Promenade and we have already recommended it to friends.

“Very impressed”

The hotel was great. The walk into town is longer than the 20 minutes that I'm sure I saw in another review but as I was on holiday it wasn't a problem. The rooms were very tastfully decorated and all the hotel facilities were great. Al the staff were very helpful and friendly.
