“Lovely hotel”

We stayed in this hotel for a week recently for a quiet break before our first baby is born early next year and it was everything we wanted... quiet, friendly, relaxing and the staff were excellent. The food (especially breakfast buffet) was lovely. We hired a car which was invaluable for getting into Funchal (where parking was easy in the multi-storey) and exploring but it wasn't 100% necessary as the hotel has a courtesy bus (but doesn't run in the evenings). Our standard room was spacious with a large and very clean bathroom and a lovely view of the gardens. The only complaint we would have is that, as commented by a previous reviewer, the bed was very hard but we got used to it and it certainly wouldn't put us off going back! A great hotel for a quiet, relaxing break. We are in our early 30's and loved it but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for people who like a lot of night-life or families with young children.

“Excellent Hotel - Funchal not for us”

The hotel was excellent service slow at times but not unreasonably so. We were staying on a B&B basis so when we ate iin the hotel it was from the a la carte menu and it was excellent. In fact we had no inclination to eat anywhere else. We stayed for 7 days and any longer we would have exhausted the menu. The pool area was exclellent with plenty of sun beds etc and more importantly plenty of shade. Funchal as a city had nothing special we went twice and was not impressed, botanical gardens are not our thing.

“Everything we could have asked for.”

This was our first time in Madeira, we knew nothing of the Island or indeed it's hotels. We chose 'Quinta Jardins do Lago' purely from the descriptions within the Expedia website and though we considered others we kept being drawn back to this one. Spent 4 wonderful nights here and can now see why the rating on the site is so high. Every single aspect of our stay is a 5 out of 5 could not fault anything. The setting was magnificent, the gardens were a joy to behold and the main building was all you could expect from a marvellous 18th century manor house. The hotel provided everything you could need for a relaxing holiday. The location being just a little away from the centre of Funchal, was perfect and as a small hotel it was all we could have wanted for a relaxing break. The staff were most helpful and courteous and delivered on every single request we had of them fo the entire duration of our stay. Will recommend to everyone I meet.

“Luxury Break”

A very spacious and high quality hotel, locally owned and run. Quiet part of Funcahl, with large and fascinating gardens. Hotel is very luxurious and high quality. Breakfast on the terrace is a must.

“Exceptional Atmosphere and Staff Hospitality”

We found the quality of the hotel outstanding. The ambiance, the food and the courtesy/helpfulness of the staff were exceptional. Our visit was at the end-of-season, as we prefer the cooler climate and less tourists about. Regardless of the time of year, we found the hotel grounds fully maintained and accessible for use including a fabulous outdoor pool, lush gardens, various staffed food/beverage areas (including a beautiful formal dining area) and a downstairs billiard, reading room. There is also a shuttle van for excursions to the city center. Though I would not discourage families, at off-season I would certainly classify this as a holiday for "grown-ups". Even the clientele were well-dressed and polite; couples out for a romantic holiday, small groups of friends, people seeking respite and relaxation. This was not a rollicking, noisy place.The atmosphere/grounds felt tranquil and mature. CLASS, without pretension. We would strongly recommend the hotel to anyone. “A very good hotel”

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and very attentive. The hotel has beautiful floral grounds, which adds to the hotels ambience.
