Lovely hotel with beautiful gardensPosted Apr 26, 2015
Pros: The gardens and also the setting of the pool. The restaurant and the quality of the food and wine. The friendliness of the staff. Everything really!!
Location: Like most of Funchal the hotel is uphill from the centre of the town. The hotel provided a courtesy bus for guests free of charge.
We stayed for a week in April. This hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were very helpful, cheerful and friendly - they all seemed very highly trained and motivated to make our stay enjoyable. We found the level and quality of service to be exceptional. We shall definitely return.

Cons: Restaurant - if you are not on half board, you are seated in an entry area with foot traffic. Also they allow rude cell phone use. A shame - good food
Lovely hotel with friendly staff and beautiful gardens. We had a very nice terrace with a view. Pool area was nice

Lovely hotel and gardensPosted Mar 11, 2015
Pros: The friendly staff, good food and peaceful location.
Cons: Shuttle bus service could start earlier in the morning.
The hotel is in lovely gardens. The standard rooms are very spacious. The food is excellent and good value. The staff are very helpful, polite and with excellent English. It is not in the central hotel district - which I think is is good - you feel well away from the tourist crowd. There is a regular shuttle bus provided by the hotel to the centre of Funchal though it doesn't start early enough if you are planning a long walk. It is about 15 minutes down a steep hill to the marina if you walk. And there is a local bus from just outside the hotel too.

Fabulous small HotelPosted Jan 22, 2015
Pros: Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Lovely gardens and views. Games room available, suana, pool etc.
Cons: It was a little costly but well worth the extra money.
Location: There is a twenty minute walk into town but courtesy bus available for the less able. Good local shops.
Good location away from the large hotels but with everything to be expected from them. Small and freindly, lovely gardens and poolside, splendid rooms, just right for our honeymoon! Will be returning!

Komfort im alten HerrenhausstilPosted Dec 17, 2014 on Hotels.com

Wonderful staff - couldn't do enough for youPosted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: The staff, the decor and the general beauty of the place.
We had the most amazing 3 night stay at this hotel, the room was a very generous size, the hotel had a wonderful atmosphere, the gardens were beautiful and the staff couldn't do enough for you. They also have a resident giant tortious named Columbo who is absolutely charming, I thoroughly enjoyed greeting him each day as we walked round the gardens. As for the rest of the hotel, we couldn't fault it and would love to go back. The restaurant does some lovely food, its not cheap but you would pay more in the UK for food of that quality. The bottle of red we ordered was decanted on arrival which was a lovely touch even though it was a few decrees cooler than we would have liked. There is a mini bus that the hotel put on free of charge that takes you to the town ever 15 minutes or so which is extremely convenient. They also have a lovely library and billiards room as well as a stunning pool.
