Birthday Getaway!Posted Nov 3, 2013
Cons: The lifts were small and had some maintenance issues.
Location: Plenty of interesting restaurants and attractions within 5 minute walk. The views are amazing.
Reids Palace was like stepping back in time. Back to when great service was not an option but the norm. It was my birthday and the staff surprised me with a bottle of champagne and flowers sent to the room. Nice touch!

Time machine.Posted Oct 7, 2013
Pros: Like stepping back in time to the late 1800s.
Cons: Refinish inner elevator door.
Location: Heart of hotel zone in Funchal. Walking distance to hundreds of restaurants. The farther you walk, the cheaper they get.
Extremely courteous staff. Great breakfast every day. Be sure to take Funchal funicular (cable car) to Monte and check out the very old Botanical Gardens.

Honeymoon 2013Posted Aug 23, 2013
Pros: Classic colonial atmosphere and extremely friendly staff - not stuffy which is refreshing for a 5* hotel.
Cons: Iron in the room. (have to use pressing service - expensive)
Location: Right on the cliff opposite the harbour - swimming, shopping and chairlift to mountains within 15 mins.
Fantastic experience - perfect for honeymoon, morning bucks fizz on the balcony over looking Funchal, cream tea on the terrace and cocktails in the evening.....

Cons: nothing, everything was perfect
Location: Superb location overlooking the bay of FUNCHAL and the town
This is one of the best, if not the best, hotel in the world. Old fashioned service in a fantastic location. Comfortable rooms and friendly attentive staff. If you want a special treat, this is the place to stay.

40th Anniversary CelebrationPosted Jul 30, 2013
Pros: The understated style and elegance. The staff made everyone feel completely comfortable and relaxed.
Cons: The wine list could be extended to include French and Italian selections
Location: The hotel is a destination in itself but the tours of the island are interesting, the botanical gardens worth a visit and the levada walks are a must
A special event meant we chose a special hotel at which to celebrate and Reids delivered more than we could have hoped for. It exceeded our expectations in every department and the effort made by the staff on our anniversary evening was quite remarkable. The whole experience was wonderfully memorable.

Relax, you're in good hands.Posted Jul 28, 2013
Pros: The pools. The spa and gym. The views, the food and drink. The program of - often free - activities, including pilates and aqua-gym. Everything.
Cons: It would be mean to quibble about the hairdryer ... there's a good one in the spa changing room.
Location: Built into a hill in superb gardens, with access to the sea (there are stairs or lifts).
Perfect understated pristine luxury. No fuss, attention to detail, really friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back.

A superb hotel that reflects its history and classPosted Apr 9, 2013
Pros: The quality of the decor and service
Location: Well positioned
Brilliant... 5 star - a totally unique experience and step back in time to the majesty and sophistication of a world renowned hotel. I would thoroughly recommend the experience. The rooms have all been renovated to a very high standard with quality fabrics, linens and towels. The staff were polite, friendly delivering the kind of service one could only wish for to match a hotel of such class and history.
