Pros: The location and lovely views. Good choice of restaurants to meet all tastes.
Cons: Rooms were tired and need of refurbishment, also the indoor pool area needs attention. There was no dress code for the main restaurant at night.
Location: Excellent location approx twenty minute walk to centre of Funchal. Plenty of restaurants close by . Good pub opposite with live entertainment.
We had previously stayed at the hotel when it was the Crown Plaza and it was all you expected from a five star hotel. This visit some areas were disappointing and some standards had slipped, however it is a lovely hotel.

Truly stunning.... againPosted Nov 19, 2013
Pros: Everything esp the pools and the food is amazing. As is the cocktail bar!!
Location: Plenty of trips available from nearby operators and bus into Funchal if you dont want to walk but taxis are cheap anyway
We decided to return here after such a wonderful holiday last year and were not disappointed. You do not have to move from the hotel if you dont want to as your every need is catered for. That said we did of course. We will be returning next year and not stay anywhere else on Madeira. It is truly wonderful

Love this hotelPosted Nov 7, 2013
Pros: Location, grounds and pools and staff
Cons: Maybe the indoor pool could be warmer and the dinner to start at an earlier time of 6:30 pm
Location: Nice walks some shopping
Had a wonderful time second stay this year. Again no complaints staff are so polite and helpfully . Can't wait to go back just to stay in that hotel.

Great view, good valuePosted Oct 20, 2013
Pros: Clean, comfortable, and large rooms at a fair price with an amazing view.
Cons: The hallways in the room areas could be spruced up for better presentation.
Location: Close to the ocean, lots of nearby restaurants, not too far from downtown.
The view was fantastic with a private balcony overlooking olive trees framed by the sea. Breakfasts (included) were more than adequate, as were the lunches. The room was large and very clean. Staff were friendly, helpful, and communicated well with English-speaking guests. The many nearby restaurants provided diversity and reasonable prices. The only negative I have to report is the somewhat dark and dated carpeting in the hallways. Most public spaces are marble. Overall, it was a nice hotel but it didn't present as a 5-star, but neither was it priced like a 5-star. I'd call it a 4-star at a 3-star price. Nice pools by the sea and swimming in the ocean for those who wanted to take the plunge.

Perfect escapePosted Oct 14, 2013
Pros: I liked the relaxed atmosphere in the hotel, although the hotel was big it did not feel impersonal.
Location: We didn't do too much as it was only a short break but we did go into Funchal Old Town and also up to Montes Palace which was beautiful.
I stayed in the Vidamar on a short break after our wedding and found the hotel to be everything we wanted and more. Clean, the staff were friendly and it was an extremely relaxing break after a hectic couple of months. I was so impressed that I have already started looking into staying there early next year and would recommend the hotel to anyone considering Madeira as a holiday destination and it didn't blow the budget!

Very modern 5 starPosted Oct 9, 2013
Pros: See above
Cons: Food and drinks should be available in more parts of the hotel during the day other than the poolside bar
Location: Everything on the island is within easy reach
The hotel is very large and modern, although it lives up to it's 5* rating it's a little characterless. The restaurants are ok but nothing special, although the breakfast was excellent both in choice and quantity. The pools and leisure facilities are very good as is the location. Our room was a family suite rather than the superior double which we paid for, and was very good. I would recommend this hotel but suggest you eat main meals in the many local restaurants.

Good location on the water.Posted Oct 1, 2013
Pros: On the water and rooms have balconies facing the ocean. Excellent breakfast buffet.
Cons: The lighting in the rooms should be improved.
Location: Good selection of restaurants. Short taxi ride to city centre.
Air conditioning in room was not working but staff quickly moved us to a suite that was available. Lighting in the rooms was poor. They use low wattage bulbs perhaps to save energy.

Exceptional!Posted Sep 22, 2013
This is a fantastic hotel. I was exceptionally impressed by this hotel and indeed Madeira. I will be returning to this hotel as soon as I can. The location was perfect, about a 20 minute walk to Funchal and ideally located for near town but not noisy, very laid back location. It was my birthday during my stay at the Vidamar and the hotel surprised me by sending up a cake and a bottle of bubbly to my room!

Vidamar Resort MadeiraPosted Sep 11, 2013
Pros: We felt everything was right about this hotel. The facilities were superb, the staff were pleasant and helpful and the setting was just perfect.
Cons: Nothing that comes to mind.
Location: The hotel is situated in Funchal which is beautiful, if you cannot find somewhere to go in Funchal you shouldn't have gone to Madeira at all.
We booked this hotel based on it's write up on Expedia and the photographs available. We knew it was a 5 star but went on holiday with caution as there is always the chance of being extremely disappointed where the accommodation does not live up to it's billing. In this case we were more than pleased and in fact felt that the hotel was probably under selling itself. If there was a 6 star available this hotel would have one. We had a fabulous stay and would go back to this hotel without hesitation.
