A dump

Posted Oct 12, 2014
Non-smoking room that had a the smell of smoke. Bathroom door would not stay closed. Hot and cold water controls were loose and hard to get the right temp. Thought I read on Expedia that this hotel was about 10 miles from Vollege Station, but was actually 41 miles away!

Clean Older Motel

Posted Jun 13, 2014
Cons: Pillows replaced; upgraded sheets (felt cheap & old)
I spend many nights at hotels for business & leisure throughout the year and am a Platinum member at the three largest chains. Recently I spent 3 nights at the Carefree Inn and found the room clean, quiet and the bed surprisingly comfortable except the pillows were very flat. However, I always take my own pillow. If you're looking for the same amenities and comfort as a Hampton or Holiday Inn, then you probably need to drive farther down I-45. The air conditioner was a bit noisy but it kept the room cold at night and best of all, the fan stayed on which acts like "white noise" while sleeping. The flat screen TV worked fine. Instead of a desk, the room had a table and 2 chairs. No problem with the internet service for the short time I used it one night. Small refrigerator kept my water cold. Didn't use the microwave. I never heard any of the oil field or construction workers leave out in the mornings. If you're needing a place to stay in Madisonville, I'd recommend this hotel for the Price. I can't vouch for all rooms, but mine was adequate.

One of regrettably few options

Posted May 13, 2014
Pros: Waking up, leaving the room.
Cons: Modernizing the reception area; more consistent service; lower rates.
Location: I was at a wedding. I have no idea what there might be to do nearby.
Disorganized front of house service... expedia reservation was never placed, despite a phone call to the front desk. Room was only cleaned one of two days during our stay. Front desk area leaves less than a positive impression... the concierge apologized multiple times for the appearance of the reception area, particularly the bathroom. Given that the Carefree Inn charges the same amount as the Best Western next door, I was expecting a bit more comfort.

Crickets and other bugs.

Posted May 5, 2012
Pros: Comfortable king size bed.
Cons: Critters
Location: Nothing special. Located behind a service station and McDonald's - just off the interstate.
Although the room was clean, there were about a dozen bugs on the floor, near the bed head board, that were dead. I picked them up and found several more in the morning which apparently crawled there the during the night. I didn't find any bedbugs. The manager said that the room was exterminated for pests several days earlier. The kings size room was okay, the bed comfortable and the bathroom newly remodeled with granite shower walls and vanity. Its an okay place if you're not squeamish about having a few crickets around. The office/breakfast area is tacky and needs updating.

Not worth the price.

Squeaky bed. Not worth the price we were charged. Will not come back.
